The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM features a newly developed optical design with 9 elements in 7 groups. Taking the advantage of large mount diameter and short back focus of RF Mount, a large-diameter lens elements is placed closer to the image plane to achieves both a compact optical system and excellent quality throughout the whole image. The incorporation of 1 PMo aspherical lens in the focus group at the 8th lens near the image plane achieves high image quality in the periphery from infinity to the minimum distance by correcting astigmatism and curvature of field. When paired with the real-time Lens aberration Correction[1] and Digital Lens Optimizer built-in to all EOS R series camera, high image quality is ensured. The lens also features the renowned Super Spectra Coating and optimized shapes of lens elements to help improving anti-ghosting and flare performance, an optional petal type Lens Hood EW-65C can be added to further enhance flare resistance.
