Canon Europe to provide Storytelling Workshops in Rome

On Monday 24 July in Rome, the finalists for United Nations SDG Action Awards will take part in an awards ceremony to celebrate and encourage the development of virtuous and solidarity-based actions.

Milan, 20 July 2023 – Canon Europe is pleased to announce a collaboration with the SDG Action campaign at the UN SDG ACTION AWARDS, an award that promotes positive change in the world through people, projects and ideas committed to creating a more sustainable and equitable tomorrow.

This year the ceremony will be held in Rome, at the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). The ceremony will celebrate winners and finalists of this prestigious award that has seen over 5000 nominations from 190 countries. It features an exceptional panel of judges, whose ranks include government representatives, creatives and sustainable business leaders. Among them will be mental health blogger Gemma Styles, Global CEO, Fairtrade International, Sandera Uwera Murasa, and Canon Ambassador and Founder of Everyday Refugees Foundation Muhammed Muheisen.

Muhammed will take to the stage to spotlight the 2023 honourable mention for, Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre Elba, in recognition of their work with the International Fund for Agricultural Development, and international finance institution and specialised agency of the United Nations that works to address poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries. Sabrina Dhowre Elba will attend the awards ceremony.

As part of the finalist engagement programme the UN is orgnaising in the run up to the ceremony, Canon will run a special ‘Leadership in Storytelling’ edition of the Canon Young People Programme. The programme has taken place in over 27 countries and was delivered earlier this year at the United Nations Least Developed Countries conference (LDC5) in Doha.

During the Leadership in storytelling workshop, Muhammed will share his journey and societal impact achievements. He’ll welcome finalists from organisations including Brazilian Young Parliament, World Cleanup Day and ImpactHER, supporting and inspiring them to deepen their engagement with young people through personal storytelling – by sharing their journeys, showcasing their achievements and inspiring others to take action.

Muhammed is a Jordanian national born in Jerusalem, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, as well a recipient of the 2023 National Geographic Wayfinder Award.

Since 2001 Muhammed has documented major events around the world, in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the USA and for over a decade and a half he has been documenting the refugee crises in different parts of the world.

“Photography is all about capturing moments in time, for the current and coming generations to learn from, to be inspired and motivated by and most important to make a difference. In my workshop with the eight finalist groups, I will be highlighting the importance of documentation, the ethics and credibility, and how nothing is impossible if we work hard, believe in ourselves and follow our hearts. Also looking forward to hand an honourable mention award to an inspiring couple who are making a real difference on the ground, Mrs. Sabrina Dhowre Elba and Mr. Idris Elba.”- Muhammed Muheisen, Canon Ambassador and the founder of Everyday Refugees Foundation.

Participants will be working with Canon R6 cameras with mentors from the Canon EMEA sustainability team and invited to create images inspired by the four award categories: mobilize, changemaker, inspire, connect. A selection of images will be used to highlight the journeys of the finalists and their leading initiatives, which have a focus on youth engagement and environmental sustainability, to inspire others to make positive change.

“Canon works in accordance with the guiding principles drawn up by the United Nations, and is honored to support this great project for the eight finalist groups with the narrative power of EOS R system technology alongside guidance and inspiration from Muhammed Muheisen, an incredible Ambassador and role model for young people.– Adam Pensotti, Head of Canon EMEA Young People Programme and Social Initiatives

This front-accessible 3-in-1 printer offers versatile media handling, producing business-quality documents at speed – offering average savings of 90% on the total cost of ownership1, thanks to high print volumes and refillable inks.

Consistent productivity for every environment

No matter what field of work you’re in – from hospitality to pharmacy, or even car hire – the compact yet highly-efficient MAXIFY GX6550 fits perfectly into any space, particularly in smaller areas like shelves or cabinet units. It is easy to check the print status with the translucent tray, even when the device is positioned with limited accessibility, such as under a desk.

Its low running cost and huge page yields, with a 250-sheet cassette and 100-sheet rear feed, make it ideal for printing a large quantity of documents at speeds of 24 ipm in black and 15.5 ipm in colour. In Standard mode2, users can print up to 6,000 sheets from a black ink bottle and 14,000 from a single set of colour ink bottles. For even greater savings, users can switch to Economy mode3, increasing page yield to 9,000 for black ink and 21,000 for colour.

Don’t compromise on quality

The MAXIFY GX6550 offers versatile media handling, providing businesses with the opportunity to create a wide variety of high quality, durable point of sale materials in-house. The pigment-based inks deliver documents that are marker, friction and water resistant.

Stay connected and secure

Enhanced security keeps the GX6550 safe on your network, while Wi-Fi allows cable-free printing from the Canon PRINT app, Apple AirPrint (IOS), Mopria (Android) and the cloud. Canon Celebrates 50 years in Australia

Canon Celebrates 50 years in Australia

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – 11 July 2023: Today marks the 50th anniversary of Canon's operations in Australia.

The company’s roots date back to 1973 when it established a joint venture, Repco Canon in Melbourne focussed on the photocopier business.

In 1978, after five years of growth, Canon Australia was established and shortly after relocated its headquarters to Sydney, where it began to manage all Canon products, expanding to imaging, which included cameras and printers.

The company later added to its operations Canon New Zealand and Canon Business Services, which has come to be known as Canon Oceania. Today, Canon Oceania Group employs 2,400 people across 22 locations.

Much of the Group’s success in the past 50 years is attributed to its stakeholders in the Oceania region; there will be continued reliance on them for greater support in the future.

Canon continues to leverage its technology, brand and customer base to provide solutions that will advance the way people in the Oceania region live and work in the future. This vision is founded on Canon's corporate philosophy of Kyosei. This philosophy aims for all people to live in harmony and work together for the common good, regardless of culture, customs, language or race.

Driven by this ethos, Canon continues to expand and grow in more global markets. Beyond imaging (cameras and printers), Canon now assumes vital roles in the medical care, industrial equipment, surveillance and commercial printing sectors, underscored by strategic partnerships and mergers & acquisitions.

Canon's aspiration to innovate through technology and solutions and make a difference for the people and communities living in Oceania will remain unchanged in the future.

Commenting on the 50th anniversary, Kotaro Fukushima, Managing Director of Canon Oceania, said:
“As an organisation, we want to grow alongside our communities – when they thrive, we do too. Celebrating Canon’s 50th year in Oceania is the perfect backdrop against which to honour those who have shared in our journey. Today, I am honoured to lead a company with a proud history. Building on the hard work of our predecessors, we are determined to focus our efforts to continue creating a brighter future.” Kotaro Fukushima, Managing Director of Canon Oceania

Canon has several small-scale yet significant projects planned throughout the year to express gratitude for the 50 years of strong relationships with stakeholders and customers.

Everyone is invited to join Canon on its journey. For more information on Canon Oceania's 50 years of history, please watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdHwkRJR4X0
