Canon participates in Earth Hour 2017 in 283 locations across 36 countries and regions

TOKYO, April 27, 2017—Canon Inc. announced today that 283 of the Company's offices and operating sites across 36 countries and regions participated in Earth Hour 2017, even greater participation than that of 2016's event. Earth Hour 2017 was held in each locale from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. (local time) on March 25.

Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that began in 2007. The event encourages individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a statement to stop global warming and protect the global environment.

Across various locations, Canon Group companies turned off lights at offices and operating sites as well as neon signs. Several locations also led lights-out and energy conservation campaigns. Canon España S.A. led a campaign in support of efforts to stop global warming. For every person who printed their favorite paper craft animal from the Canon Creative Park, a free creative content download site, then posted a picture of the assembled animal on Twitter along with the campaign hashtag and their reason for choosing that animal, the Company donated one euro to the WWF. A dedicated page* within the Canon Global website provides an overview of the Company's global Earth Hour 2017 activities and awareness campaigns.

Through technological innovation and improved management efficiency, Canon aims to realize its "Action for Green" environmental vision: a society that promotes both enriched lifestyles and the global environment. Canon strives to reduce the environmental burden throughout the entire product lifecycle, thereby creating environmental frontrunner products.

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 20, 2017 – In a move to help meet the demands of professional filmmakers, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the availability of a feature upgrade for the EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR camera that will add the ability to record with Canon Log. With this upgrade, the EOS 5D Mark IV can achieve a cinematic look similar to what can be achieved using Cinema EOS cameras, allowing it to serve as a second camera on a Cinema EOS shoot or to stand alone as a cinema camera. Current EOS 5D Mark IV camera owners can have the Canon Log feature upgrade installed for $99 at any of the Canon service centers across the U.S. starting in July. The camera will also be available for sale (body only) with the feature upgrade pre-installed starting in July, with an estimated retail price of $3,599.00*.

Canon Log uses the image sensor’s characteristics in a way that allows for a wide dynamic range, minimal loss of detail in shadows and highlight areas and an increased range of choices when color grading. Color grading options available with Canon Log include optimized color saturation, accurate colors with minor color bias, visual continuity and accurate skin tones.

Canon Log also works with and complements several EOS 5D Mark IV camera features including 4K shooting, Dual Pixel CMOS AF, high speed 119.9p shooting in HD and 59.94p shooting in Full HD. Additional features include Movie Servo AF allowing the camera to focus on a subject even when the shutter button is not used, the ability to register custom shooting modes in Canon Log and movie shooting in Canon Log on a compatible iOS® or Android™ device using the free Canon Camera Connect app1.

”A Total Guide to Totality” Blog Features Expert Tips, Videos, and Resources for Capturing This Rare Celestial Phenomenon

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 18, 2017 – On August 21, 2017, the Moon will pass between the Sun and the Earth, fully blocking the Sun from view for over two minutes to a large portion of the country. This natural phenomenon is called a total solar eclipse; this is the first one to race across the entire country in 99 years. The last one viewed in the United States occurred in 1979. Serving as a resource for all photographers interested in documenting these once-in-a-lifetime moments, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announced today the launch of the Canon Eclipse Blog, “A Total Guide to Totality” (usa.canon.com/eclipse); a vital resource for anyone looking to capture what is likely to be the most photographed total solar eclipse to date.

The blog, co-authored by Canon Explorer of Light Ken Sklute and photographer Dave Henry, will feature a series of ongoing posts with helpful guidelines, images and videos that teach photographers of all skill levels how to capture the total solar eclipse including tips that may help protect your eyes and camera’s lenses and sensor. In addition to the blog, consumers can also learn and practice their photography skills in-person through specialized Canon Live Learning workshops at Canon facilities around the country.

When planning to capture this historic occasion, in addition to studying the necessary techniques and using the proper equipment such as solar filters, photographers can also prepare by making sure their gear is in top condition by sending their Canon EOS DSLR cameras and EF lenses to one of our Factory Service Centers for a Canon Maintenance Service (pricing available). This service will help ensure your gear is in optimal condition for high image quality, performance, and reliability.

“Prepping for an opportunity to capture a rare lifetime moment like the total solar eclipse takes significant planning, practicing and fine-tuning of photography techniques,” said Ken Sklute, professional photographer and Canon Explorer of Light. “It may sound impossible, but with enough practice and the right equipment, it is possible for anyone to capture this magnificent moment.”

“We believe there are no limits to beautiful imagery, and we do everything possible so that our customers have the highest quality equipment, customer care, and access to the education they need in order to create beautiful images,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Whether it’s a shared national experience such as the total solar eclipse or more personal milestones, Canon helps photographers capture the events that are more than just a moment.”

Canon U.S.A. Commemorates 20 Years of Partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and Yellowstone Forever

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 4, 2017 – Signifying a continued commitment to corporate social responsibility, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to commemorate 20 years of long-standing collaborations with two of its flagship corporate social responsibility partners - the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and Yellowstone Forever -- formerly the Yellowstone Park Foundation. Over the last two decades, Canon U.S.A. has worked together with NCMEC to help find missing children and drive awareness about child safety, and with Yellowstone Forever to raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship and conservation.

“Giving back to our communities, enhancing children’s safety and preserving the prosperity of our environment are important issues that we face today. Canon U.S.A. has also donated products to help law enforcement quickly disseminate photos and information about missing children. To date, Canon has donated more than 2,200 pieces of digital photographic and imaging technology equipment to law enforcement agencies throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

Canon U.S.A. also supports NCMEC’s mission to protect children through fundraisers and in-kind contributions. Earlier this year, Canon sponsored the 20th Anniversary Celebration NCMEC Celebrity Golf Tournament and a Canon Customer Appreciation Reception in Las Vegas which raised $357,600 for NCMEC when combined with total donations.

“Our success wouldn’t be possible without partners like Canon and we are grateful for their continued support over the last 20 years,” said John Clark, president and CEO, NCMEC. “We have seen firsthand how photography can assist in the recovery of children, and will continue to work with Canon to educate families about how they can be prepared. Together, we can help more missing children come home safely.”

Canon & Yellowstone: Educating with Experts, Inciting Community Action

Canon U.S.A.’s contributions to Yellowstone Forever have supported numerous educational and scientific research efforts geared towards better understanding the environmental impact on Yellowstone Park’s wildlife and ecosystem. Through Eyes on Yellowstone, Yellowstone Forever’s research and education platform, Canon U.S.A. has helped Park employees and partners respond to climate change issues through mitigation, adaptation and communication to the public. Canon U.S.A.’s funding for Yellowstone Forever assists with important scientific research in conservation, endangered species protection and the application of cutting-edge science and technology essential to managing Yellowstone National Park wildlife and ecosystems.

“We are proud to celebrate 20 years of partnership with Canon U.S.A., Inc. Their generous commitment to Yellowstone National Park over the past two decades, totaling more than $7 million, helps support innovative education and research projects. The Eyes on Yellowstone program, made possible by Canon, represents the largest corporate donation for wildlife conservation in the park,” said Dan Wenk, Superintendent of Yellowstone Park.

Canon’s streaming webcam supports the live online feed of the Old Faithful geyser. Canon equipment also supports online roving rangers, as well as a series of education web videos and podcasts. The Yellowstone Wolf Project uses Canon digital cameras in its aerial radio-tracking flights within Yellowstone National Park as a method to enhance its data collection, while the content and media on the park’s official website brings science and education together to help preserve and protect this area of national significance.
