New Canon EOS M5 Digital Camera / EF-M 18-150mm IS STM Lens

New Canon EOS M5 Digital Camera
EOS M5 Camera Provides The Fastest Autofocus (AF) speed of EOS M-Series and a built-in Electronic Viewfinder

MELVILLE, N.Y., September 15, 2016 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the latest additions to its EOS M series system - the new Canon EOS M5 Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera and compact EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens. The EOS M5 camera features a 24.2 Megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor, DIGIC 7 Image Processor and the fastest AF speed in the EOS M-series (i), enabling photographers to capture clear, sharp, high-resolution images and Full HD videos. It is also the first in the EOS camera line to include the low energy Bluetooth® Smart (ii) feature that can maintain a constant connection (iii) with your compatible smartphone or tablet when you use the Canon camera connect application and both applications are active. The versatile EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens is compatible with all Canon EOS M series digital cameras, and is a great option for photographers looking to capture scenic landscapes while traveling to close-up shots from afar.

“The new capabilities found in the Canon EOS M5 Camera and EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens set a new standard for our EOS M series of cameras and lenses, showing that Canon is constantly incorporating performance enhancements desired by our customers,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “When paired together, the new EOS M5 camera and EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens provide image-makers of all levels with powerful tools that enable them to capture a variety of remarkable images and videos.”

In addition, advanced photographers will appreciate the improved operability of the EOS M5 camera. It has a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) and Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF for capturing stills and shooting video with smooth and precise autofocus. This allows for Touch and Drag AF so users can easily switch the subject of their focus by dragging the AF frame directly on the LCD panel, even while looking through the camera’s EVF. Focus peaking allows users to highlight the area of the image that is in focus from within the EVF or LCD monitor. In addition to its touchscreen operability, the EOS M5 camera also has easily accessible dials that allow you to quickly adjust your settings on-the-go.

Canon EOS M5 Camera Key Features:
  • 24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor, ISO 100–25600.
  • Fast and smooth Dual Pixel CMOS AF helps you capture stills and shoot video with quick and precise autofocus.
  • High-speed continuous shooting at up to 7.0 fps (up to 9.0 fps with AF Lock) and new DIGIC 7 Image Processor with improved AF tracking performance.
  • Full HD 60p helps capture fast-moving subjects and brilliant results in MP4 format.
  • Digital IS with 5-axis image stabilization iv when shooting movies plus increased image stabilization with both lens optical IS and in-camera digital IS when shooting with an IS lens.
  • Built-in high-resolution EVF (approx. 2,360,000 dots) with new Touch and Drag AF lets you manually move the AF frame displayed for more precise focusing in different shooting situations.
  • Intuitive touch screen 3.2 tilt-type (85° up/180° down) LCD monitor (approx. 1,620,000 dots) enables flexible positioning and clear viewing.
  • Easily customize functions while shooting using the Main Dial, Quick Control Dial, Dial Function Button and Exposure Compensation Dial.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi® (v) and NFC (vi) allows for easy sharing and transferring of images and videos.
  • Equipped with Bluetooth® (iii) Smart for smooth pairing with a compatible smartphone by powering on both devices for easy photo sharing and remote control possibilities.
  • Shorter camera startup time (vii) and interval time between each image capture for a more efficient shooting experience.
  • Compatible with EF-M lenses as well as the full line of EF(viii) and EF-S (viii) lenses and Speedlites for expanded creativity.

New Canon EOS M5 Digital Camera
The Canon EOS M5 also features Combination IS with in-camera 5-axis image stabilization, while capturing video, a first in the Canon EOS series. With a compatible lens attached (iv), Combination IS leverages optical IS and in-camera digital IS to help create tremendously smooth videos. The DIGIC 7 Image Processor makes the 5-axis IS possible even with lenses that do not contain IS, because the in-camera image stabilization functions independently to help reduce camera shake when shooting videos.

Additionally, the EOS M5 camera shoots impressive time-lapse videos. The EOS M5 camera also allows for easy panning by setting the optimal shutter speed after analyzing the camera's panning speed and how fast the subject is moving.

Canon EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens
The new Canon EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens offers a high-zoom ratio, expanding the range of photographic possibilities for EOS M digital cameras. Its image stabilizer helps with reducing image blur and making image and video shooting easier at longer focal lengths. Along with the enhanced performance, the EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens is compact and lightweight, making it a versatile and convenient lens to carry.

Canon still on top of the global interchangeable-lens digital camera market

Canon still on top of the global interchangeable-lens digital camera market
Canon celebrates 15th consecutive year of No. 1 share of global interchangeable-lens digital camera market

TOKYO, March 28, 2018—Canon Inc. has announced today that the Company's interchangeable-lens digital cameras (digital SLR and compact-system cameras) have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 15 consecutive years1 from 2003 to 2017.
Canon develops the key components featured in its interchangeable-lens cameras—CMOS image sensors, image processors and interchangeable lenses—in the pursuit of "Speed, Comfort and High Image Quality, the core concept of the EOS series." The Company effectively responds to the needs of a wide range of users through its extensive lineup of cameras catering to all levels of photography from beginner to professional and a total2 of 93 EF series interchangeable lenses.

In 2003, the dawn of digital SLR cameras, Canon introduced its breakthrough EOS Kiss Digital (EOS Digital Rebel or EOS 300D Digital in other regions). This groundbreaking camera, which was competitively priced and featured a compact, lightweight design, captured the top share of the global market and set the stage for growth in the digital SLR market. Since that time, Canon has continued to launch a range of groundbreaking products, including the professional-model EOS-1D series and the EOS 5D series, which paved the way for digital SLR video recording. The Company has further bolstered the EOS lineup by continuing to introduce new products including accessories, interchangeable lenses and the EOS M series of compact-system cameras. During 2017, Canon introduced the EOS 6D Mark II as part of an impressive lineup of interchangeable-lens camera products3 that supported the Company's achievement of a 15th consecutive year at the top of the global market.

Canon will continue to refine its diverse imaging technologies based on its core optical technology, combining still-image, video and network capabilities to expand and create an even stronger EOS System that meets the needs of increasingly diverse users to promote the spread of photo and video culture. What's more, thanks to advances in imaging technology, Canon is opening up new expressive avenues, where texture, three-dimensionality and a sense of realism can be recreated in both still images and videos, to support appealing imaging experiences.
  1. Based on a Canon survey
  2. Includes two EF lens extenders, two models not available in Japan and fourteen EF Cinema Lenses. As of March 28, 2018.
  3. A total of six digital ILC cameras were released in Japan in 2017: The EOS 9000D (EOS 77D in other regions), EOS Kiss X9i (EOS Rebel T7i / EOS 800D in other regions) and EOS M6 in April 2017; the EOS Kiss X9 (EOS Rebel SL2 / EOS 200D in other regions) in June 2017; the EOS 6D Mark II in August 2017; and the EOS M100 in September 2017.

Canon Launches 2018 Young People Programme

Canon Launches 2018 Young People Programme at UN’s Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development.
Canon Launches 2018 Young People Programme at UN’s Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development.

London, UK – 22 March 2018 – Canon Europe, leader in imaging solutions, is officially launching this year’s Young People Programme for 2018 at this year’s Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development with the help of two of its student storytellers and the UN SDG Action Campaign. Participants from the programme will appear alongside Stuart Poore, EMEA Director of Sustainability and Government Affairs, Canon Europe, and Photojournalist and Canon ambassador Ulla Lohmann, on UN Web TV (on the 22nd March at 11:10 am GMT) to share plans for the year ahead with Mitchell Toomey, Global Director of the UN SDG Action Campaign (Sustainable Development Goals).

Now in its fourth year, Canon’s Young People Programme seeks to contribute towards the achievement of the SDGs by giving young people a voice through harnessing the power of positive visual storytelling to drive change. The programme uses the SDGs as a framework to give young people the opportunity to talk about the global issues that affect their futures and by providing the right tools and coaching, it aims to bring participants’ stories to life. Canon Europe has been delivering visual storytelling workshops for young people since 2015, and to date, 14 countries across Europe have run events, reaching more than 3,000 students.

“The Young People Programme is good example of how Canon Europe is seeking to make meaningful social investments across the EMEA region, demonstrating our commitment to our corporate philosophy of Kyosei: living and working together for the common good,” says Stuart Poore, EMEA Director of Sustainability and Government Affairs, Canon Europe.

“The Global Festival of Action is a great opportunity to give young people a voice about the need for positive change. We at Canon are incredibly proud to support the Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development, and are very excited to celebrate the inspiring work of our own Young People Programme student storytellers during the event.”

“Canon´s commitment with the SDGs through the Young People Programme is a perfect example of the many organisations, companies and people truly engaged in creating real solutions to bring the SDGs forward. We cannot do this alone, we need the young people and we need to hear their voices, and include them in the action needed to achieve the Goals. I feel inspired by the amazing visual stories created by the Young People and look forward to finding what we will create together in the next chapters of this program.” said Mitchell Toomey, Director of the UN SDG Action Campaign,

The UN SDG Action Campaign is a special initiative of the UN-Secretary General, administered by the UNDP to create awareness about the 2030 Agenda, empower and inspire people across the world to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while generating political will, and help make the Goals attainable by 2030.

From the 21st to the 23rd March, the UN SDG Action Campaign hosts the Global Festival of Action, bringing together business leaders, activists, UN representatives, academics, government, global organisations and media from across the globe. This year Canon joins them and is supporting the event in several ways including hosting “how to” sessions, using Canon technology to print exhibition photography, promotional photo books, floor graphics, and banners;

The Power of the Visual Voice
Canon Ambassador, Ulla Lohmann will be holding a ‘how to’ session, showing attendees all the ways they can use storytelling portraits to add strength to their SDG successes, get them heard, inspire others and drive continued support for their work. She’ll share how to build a story, make a personal connection with a subject and share the results with the wider world.

Humans of MY World
Canon’s exceptional printing technology brings a powerful exhibition of photography to life that shines a light on the real human stories behind the SDGs. Photography from the Young People Programme will sit alongside that of the UN SDG Action Campaign.

Support in Print
Further contribution to the event comes in the form of promotional printing. A variety of Canon technologies will be used to support the key messages of the event and enhance visitors’ experiences, from the indoor exhibition prints, to photo books for creating memories and printed SDG logos for personalised visitor pictures – to floor graphics and indoor banners that highlight the events messages and direct visitors throughout the event space.

AGENDER: Women in Photography. A platform for change

AGENDER: Women in Photography. A platform for change
Sydney, Australia, 1 March 2018 – AGENDER – a collective of leading female photographers from the art, advertising and fashion industries – launches with an exhibition held at Hyatt Regency, Friday March 9 in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

AGENDER is a celebration of the great talent, wisdom and experience of women in the photographic industry in Australia. Its key goal is to bolster the careers of female photographers and, in turn not only inspire a new generation of young women, but to also recognise and work to bridge the vast gap that stands between photography students and a sustainable career for female photographers in Australia today.

AGENDER has teamed up with Canon Australia, SUNSTUDIOS and Hyatt to co-host a series of exciting events at Hyatt Regency culminating in the AGENDER public opening show, featuring Australia’s most talented female photographers, including Anna Pogossova, Cara O’Dowd, Carlotta Moyes, Cybele Malinowski, Danielle Harte, Juliet Taylor, Liz Ham, Michele Aboud and Petrina Tinsley.

What started with the spark of an opening exhibition for International Women’s Day has also flamed out into a week of celebrations, coined International Women’s Week. Through a series of lunches, talks and think sessions, IWW will launch AGENDER, tackling the boundaries and paradigms that women come across within photography.

“Given the current climate, AGENDER is designed to be a powerful alliance for female creatives that will affect change both for the women taking photographs and the women in photographs,” says Cybele Malinowski, founder of AGENDER. “There are plenty of female photographers, more than men in fact. Looking at the hard stats, they are getting the work, but they are funnelling in to lesser paid areas of photography. They are not getting represented by the photo agencies and they are not getting the high paid jobs in the commercial world. By banding together with photographers and key people within the industry, I want to look at why this is happening, and how we can ultimately affect change.”

“AGENDER has come around at the very best time... There couldn’t be a better moment than right now to celebrate being a woman, and rally with this zeitgeist of contemporary feminist politics to acknowledge the vast gap between males and females in our industry. In 20 years working as a professional photographer I have seen many changes, but sadly this divide has continued. We need to stand together and create a space that is nourishing, supportive and inspiring for the younger photographers contemplating a career that can be so incredibly empowering and liberating,” – Fashion photographer Liz Ham

"When I was initially invited to be part of AGENDER, there was clarity from the beginning of what this could mean, not just for my peers and myself, but for who could benefit from the experience and wisdom that each and every photographer involved would offer.” – Internationally renowned portrait photographer Michele Aboud

"Starting my career over twenty seven years ago I’ve seen so much change in shifting perceptions towards females in the industry up to this day. Starting as a freelance photographer I could not name at the time one other female who worked in my chosen genre of food, lifestyle and travel photography in my home base of Sydney. While I was a novelty at the time, I’m more than happy to say that the industry is populated with some real heavyweights in the photographic arena today. I’m excited about the future and for the opportunities such collaborations like AGENDER, with the wonderful support of Canon, can enable.” – Food photographer Petrina Tinslay

Half of Australian photographers are female, however women are a minority in photography’s high paying fields of advertising and fashion, earning a quarter less than men overall in this industry. AGENDER wants to encourage women to push through and succeed in the areas of photography that have been historically dominated by men. These women are examples that it can be done. Through banding together with key figures in the media, advertising and magazine worlds, AGENDER seeks to create a powerful alliance that can instigate change for the women who take photos, as well as the women who feature in them.

Profits from the events will be donated the Sydney Women’s Fund.

AGENDER Exhibition, starting Friday, March 9

Featuring Australia’s leading female photographers from the art, advertising and fashion industries. Sponsored by Canon Australia, SUNSTUDIOS, Moët and Hyatt Regency.

Canon Gallery, Hyatt Regency Hotel, 161 Sussex St, Sydney
Open to the public, Monday – Friday, 6:30am – 4:00pm

Canon U.S.A. Builds on Success of the “One Canon” Strategy during Annual Press Event that Showcases the Company’s Growing Portfolio
Canon U.S.A. Builds on Success of the “One Canon” Strategy during Annual Press Event that Showcases the Company’s Growing Portfolio

MELVILLE, N.Y., March 1, 2018 – Canon U.S.A., Inc. a leader in digital imaging solutions, concluded its One Canon Event, held February 12-14 in Hollywood, Florida. The annual gathering of esteemed industry analysts and press commemorated the Company’s inclusive and inventive approaches to its diverse customers and the continued success of the One Canon business strategy

The exclusive event provided over 45 industry analysts and journalists the opportunity to engage with executive leaders, customers, and business partners, and hear about the Company’s strategic evolution to continue to help foster strong growth and performance drivers going forward.

Key executives updated guests on the impact the One Canon strategy is having on the company as a whole, while providing examples of successful One Canon collaborations positively affecting customers, partners, and the company’s dealer channel. Leaders from business units also gave guests an inside look into industry-leading products, service, and marketing programs that continue to differentiate Canon as a dynamic force in the print industry.

One major highlight of the event was the announcement of the third generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE 2ndedition models, a refresh of the three-time BLI Line of the Year award-winning platform that will be available in spring 2018.

The launch features improvements that target three core needs of technology decision makers:
  • Simplify The power to streamline user workflows / ease the implementation & management of technology (Cloud-capabilities)
  • Control The power to take command of costs, manage print usage and implement a secure solution (New levels of security)
  • Evolve The power to expand capabilities and stay ahead of change (Continuous improvement)

“This is our second year celebrating the One Canon strategy, a customer-first principle which represents our inclusive approach toward delivering integrated solutions offerings based on innovation, possibility and smart solutions,” said Toyotsugu Kuwamura, executive vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “By coming together across the Canon Family of companies and working side by side with our customers and channel partners, we continue to seek new and inventive ways to drive change in the industry.”

During the two-day event, guests not only attended executive presentations, but were given the opportunity to hear directly from Canon customers and partners during the event’s “Successful Solutions” session that gave unique insight into how the company continues to collaborate and focus on forward-thinking innovation.

Representatives from Mount Ida College, Pixelwerx, Southwestern Blueprint, and Arna Marketing enhanced the conversation by participating in on-stage interviews where they each had the opportunity to share their unique perspective on the Canon approach and how it helps advance their organizations. In addition, following the success of Canon’s dealer relations portion, which included dynamic interviews with key partners, the company again reiterated its commitment to establishing strong partnerships with independent dealers by inviting Ryan Jones from American Business Machines and his customer, Borden Newman from Editorial Renuevo to speak alongside BISG senior vice president and general manager, Mason Olds.

"Mount Ida College may be considered small compared to other institutions, but Canon has always made us feel that we are as important to them as anyone else would be,” said Jill Abrahams, vice president for Advancement at Mount Ida College. “We were thrilled to be asked to participate in this event, and look forward to continue working side-by-side with Canon on future initiatives."

Abrahams was joined on stage by her colleague Jason Donati, Dean at Mount Ida College, who added, “Our alliance with Canon has enriched many of our student programs, with tangible items such as providing high quality cameras and printers, to participating in our business entrepreneur event, to supporting other key initiatives of our school. We were delighted to be able to present this unique relationship to the media through the One Canon Event."

The event included a landmark announcement from Canon Solutions America on the advancement to its security offerings. Pete Kowalczuk, president of Canon Solutions America, detailed the far-reaching enhancements during a presentation that included Carlos Fernandes, CEO, Agile Cybersecurity Solutions, and Ajay Arora, CEO of Vera, the company’s new security partners.
