New Canon PowerShot PICK

Canon PowerShot PICK
SINGAPORE, 28 October 2021 — Canon today launched the PowerShot PICK, a portable AI-powered camera which is built to automatically capture everyday moments with photos or videos. With in-built features of face-capture technology, the PowerShot PICK will automatically recognise faces around it and capture (via video or photography) memorable moments in a candid manner without you having to be behind the camera!

Its small size and in-built tripod mount make it very useful in many indoor and outdoor scenarios – whether you are spending time with your friends or family at a gathering or party, or just on a day out with the children, or even on the go in a vehicle, the PowerShot PICK’s compact, lightweight and portable design allows you to bring it anywhere and everywhere.

“While we have more opportunities than ever to take photos and videos with smartphones, important scenes can be missed as smartphones require the user to be actively shooting. The shooting habit can also distract users from focusing on the time spent with family and friends. With the PowerShot PICK, important moments and scenes can be captured automatically as if it were a dedicated photographer and users can concentrate on spending time with their family and friends,” said Imasaka Daido, Director of Regional ICP Sales & Marketing, Canon Singapore.

Smile Tracking and Automatic Filtering
Using a unique algorithm that was developed over the years by Canon, the PowerShot PICK will automatically search for faces of people nearby once it is switched on, adjusting the composition of the shot and shoot based on facial information with its pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) mechanism.

The intelligent technology behind the PowerShot PICK means that it can automatically shoots various scenes where people are smiling, with a variation of compositions. Subsequently, recommended scenes will be filtered from the many images taken, making it even easier to select and decide which images you would like to keep and share, saving time and effort.

Portable, Compact, and Lightweight
Weighing only approximately 170g (including the microSD card) and measuring under 9cm x 6cm in size, the PowerShot PICK can be carried along for use almost anywhere. The PTZ mechanism has a pan direction of maximum approximately ±170 degrees, tilt direction of a maximum approximate of 110 degrees and is capable of up to a maximum of 12x zoom, through a combination of a 3x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom.

The PowerShot PICK also has a wide-angle coverage of 19mm (in 35mm format equivalent), allowing large group of people to be included within the scene and it works well in small enclosed area. This allows users to place the camera at an easy angle to allow continuous footage shooting without having to worry about adjusting the camera. Up to 5 hours of video recording through the camera’s built-in battery allows the camera to be portable and can be used anywhere. Also, it can be charged via its USB-C port.

Tracking and Image Stabilisation (IS)
Using Canon’s Nano USM technology, the PowerShot PICK is capable of silent and high-speed tracking, automatically tracking the subject so that the face stays within the angle of view even when the subject moves. The camera effectively suppresses blur by mechanically controlling the rotation angle of the lens barrel, ensuring the user will be able to get the clearest shots available without having to be physically present to ensure that the camera is focusing on the right targets, saving an incredible amount of time and providing tremendous efficiency when it comes to capturing your most memorable moments.

Customised Shooting with a Dedicated Smartphone App
PowerShot PICK’s dedicated smartphone app (Connect app for Mini PTZ Cam) connects the user to the camera, providing a range of functions such as checking registered people, recommending photos and videos, camera notifications, viewing of captured still images and videos, remote camera control, camera settings, and the ability to generate highlight videos (only for iOS users).

When switched on, the PowerShot PICK searches for people in the surrounding and registers them automatically. Through the dedicated smartphone app, users can assign a name to a registered person and prioritise them by marking them as a “favourite”. Automatic shooting settings can also be customised, such as the search or zoom range preferences, capturing only still photos or both still photos and videos, and shooting period priority versus shooting frequency priority.

Given its small size and in-built tripod mount, there are a wide range of indoor and outdoor scenarios in which the PowerShot PICK can come in handy as it can be mounted on selfie sticks, tripods and even on bicycles or motorcycles, to record unique perspectives and key moments, ensuring that you never lose another precious moment amongst family and friends!

Video content creators would also find the PowerShot PICK helpful in shooting ‘how-to’ videos smoothly, be it in terms of cooking, makeup or even crafting. Through remote shooting, coupled with PTZ features, video expression can be expanded, and touch tracking can also be achieved via the app when used with the remote control functionality.

For important events such as weddings or concerts, the PowerShot PICK can also serve as a “B-cam” to capture behind-the-scenes (BTS) activities, such as the preparation process and the expressions of the audience.

Voice Commands and Webcam Support
Among the extensive features available on the PowerShot PICK, it also allows users to operate the camera through voice commands on four distinct functions – still photo shooting, changing subjects, starting of video recording, and stopping automatic shooting. This is all possible with the camera alone, without needing any cloud communication or wireless/wired connectivity.

The PowerShot PICK also supports seven languages, including English, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. The camera also comes with webcam support, via the installation of the Wireless Webcam Utility for Mini PTZ Cam (a windows only PC app). The camera can be placed anywhere since it connects to the PC wirelessly and users are able to transfer camera images to the PC anywhere in real time. PTZ control of the camera and automatic tracking settings can also be changed from the application software.

Canon Officially Launches the RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM Lens, Hong Kong

Canon Officially Launches the RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM Lens, Hong Kong
A Compact and Lightweight RF Super Telephoto Zoom Lens for Expanded Imaging Creation

HONG KONG, 28th October 2021 — Canon announces the new RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM is now available for sale, providing photo enthusiasts using the EOS R system with an excellent super telephoto zoom lens option that is compact, versatile and affordable to capture a wider range of topics. The compact and lightweight RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM is only 635g in weight and 164.7mm in length. Its superior optical design coupled with built-in optical image stabilization of up to 5.5-stop shake compensation[1] allow for easy capture of sharp and clear images. Its 400mm focal length and impressive 0.41x magnification open up more imaging perspectives and room for creative possibilities, empowering users to explore a wider range of topics ranging from landscape, wildlife, travel, aviation to railway.

Superior Optical Design for Excellent Image Quality in a Compact Size

Inheriting the compact design concept of EOS R system and taking advantages of the large mount diameter and short back focus distance of the RF mount, RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM is made possible with a newly developed 12 elements in 9 groups optical design, which successfully reduces the number of lens elements used to achieve a compact and lightweight design while retaining excellent image quality. While covering 100mm-400mm reach, RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM is only 164.7mm in length and 635g in weight, which is physically as compact as an average 350ml tumbler. With a size much smaller and lighter than other lenses of its type, it is highly portable and compact enough to fit into a small bag or packed with other lenses, enabling users to travel and shoot light to experience the power of full frame photography.

The lens optical design features 1 UD lens element to correct chromatic aberration throughout the entire zoom range and 1 PMo aspherical lens element to deliver high resolution and contrast to realize edge-to-edge sharpness throughout its 100-400mm zoom range. In addition, the lens features a 9-blade circular aperture to deliver beautiful and soft background blur effect. It also features the renowned Super Spectra Coating and optimized shapes of lens elements to minimize ghosting and flare. An optional Lens Hood ET-74B can be added to further enhance flare resistance.

Super Telephoto Zoom Lens with High Magnification Realizing Expanded Creative Possibilities

Offering all-round mid to super telephoto capabilities, RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM can satisfy versatile imaging needs while contributing to the creation of richer expressions. Such long focal range coverage makes it easy to capture feature shots during traveling, or genres like wildlife, aviation, or railway which are generally difficult to photograph from a close distance. The lens is also compatible with Extender RF 1.4x or Extender RF 2x, the effective focal length can be increased further to 560mm and 800mm respectively.

While this is a super telephoto lens, its minimum focusing distances is only 0.88m (at 200mm) with a magnification of 0.24x. At 400mm, the lens achieves an impressive 0.41x magnification at 1.05m shooting distance, this is particularly useful in creating one-of-a-kind feature shots of small subjects such as flowers or butterflies. The best can be brought out of the lens compression effect and bokeh of telephoto lenses.

Up to 5.5-Stop Optical Image Stabilization1 to Facilitate Handheld Shooting

RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM features a built-in Optical Image Stabilizer that provides shake compensation of up to 5.5-stop shutter speed[1]. When used with EOS R3 / EOS R5 / EOS R6, image stabilization effect is enhanced to 6-stop[2] with the camera’s In-Body Image Stabilizer. Benefited from the lens’ compactness and its incredible image stabilization performance, users can shoot handheld easily and conveniently at long focal length without the hassle of bringing a tripod. This also gives users more freedom in photography to explore shooting in dim environment, using low shutter speeds or low ISO settings to realize more creativity.

Outstanding Focusing Performance and Operability to Make Shooting a Breeze

RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM is equipped with Nano USM and a rear focusing system for high-speed and accurate AF and smooth Movie AF, empowering users to grasp every fleeting photo and video opportunity with confidence. Focusing operation is nearly silent, guaranteeing high-quality movie results in addition to still images. AF remains possible and highly efficient even when an extender is attached[3]. When it comes to operability, the lens incorporates the RF lens control ring on the lens barrel to enable easy adjustment of assigned settings such as ISO speed, shutter speed or aperture value directly from the lens. This makes operation a breeze and brings maximized efficiency especially when shooting through the electronic viewfinder. The lens also features a “Zoom Ring Lock”, which locks the zoom at 100mm to prevent the lens from extending when being carried.

The new RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM is now available for sale. The suggested retail price is HK$5,780.

Additionally, president and CEO Kazuto Ogawa created post-hybrid working groups which spawned new ideas and innovations; several of which are being commercialized such as the EOS Webcam Utility software, which allows a person to turn their Canon camera into a high-quality webcam.

“In the wake of the pandemic, business hit hurdles in terms of retaining and attracting employees – but the companies that made this list are delivering the respect, care, and appreciation that it takes to create a positive workplace that nurtures talent,” said Nancy Cooper, Global Editor in Chief, Newsweek.

“The best way to determine the strength of a company’s culture is by measuring the degree of love employees feel for their workplace,” said Louis Carter, CEO and Founder of Best Practice Institute and Most Loved Workplace.

The full Newsweek list of 2021’s Most Loved Workplaces will be featured in the magazine’s October 29 print edition and is currently available online at https://www.newsweek.com/americas-most-loved-workplaces-2021.

Methodology

To identify the top 100 companies for the Newsweek ranking, companies were evaluated and scored as follows: 35 percent of the initial score was based on employee survey responses; 25 percent was derived from analysis of external public ratings from sites such as Comparably, Careerbliss, Glassdoor, Indeed and Google; and 40 percent came from direct interviews with and written responses from company officials. Newsweek then conducted additional research into every company on the list, as well as the top runners up, to determine the final list of 100 companies and their ranking. (The list includes both U.S. firms and companies with a strong U.S. presence that are based overseas.)

The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM, a compact and lightweight full frame ultrawide angle fast lens designed for EOS R system, weighs only 165g and 40.2mm in length. Its 0.26x magnification at 0.13m minimum focus distance also allows creating close-up photos with unique perspective. All these features make it an ideal choice for landscape or snapshots for entry full frame users.

16mm Ultra-wide Angle with Excellent Image Quality

The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM features a newly developed optical design with 9 elements in 7 groups. Taking the advantage of large mount diameter and short back focus of RF Mount, a large-diameter lens elements is placed closer to the image plane to achieves both a compact optical system and excellent quality throughout the whole image. The incorporation of 1 PMo aspherical lens in the focus group at the 8th lens near the image plane achieves high image quality in the periphery from infinity to the minimum distance by correcting astigmatism and curvature of field. When paired with the real-time Lens aberration Correction[1] and Digital Lens Optimizer built-in to all EOS R series camera, high image quality is ensured. The lens also features the renowned Super Spectra Coating and optimized shapes of lens elements to help improving anti-ghosting and flare performance, an optional petal type Lens Hood EW-65C can be added to further enhance flare resistance.

The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM is an ideal choice for Entry Full frame EOS R users, who currently own a standard zoom kit lens, to expand their photo genres and expressive capability. The lens covers an ultra-wide angle 108o11’ field of view, allows capturing of more breath-taking scenery than the 24mm focal length of standard zoom kit lens or taking spacious photo even in small places. User can also get closer to their subject with this lens and brings more visual dynamic to the photos with perspective unique to ultrawide angle lens. The lens wide f/2.8 aperture and 7-blade circular aperture brings natural and soft bokeh. The bright f/2.8 aperture also allow users to freeze subject movement with faster shutter speed or get better image quality with lower ISO speed when shooting indoor or dark environment. When used with EOS R3/EOS R5/EOS R6, the In Body Image Stabilizer offers up to 5.5-stop shake compensation[2] to facilitate handheld shooting.

For content creators active on social media, the combination of RF 16mm f/2.8 STM and Full Frame EOS R-series camera is a great tool for video content shooting. This combination brings wide angle of view for content creators with more background blur and higher image quality than typical smartphone cameras, even for indoor or dark environment. The lens compact design also allows selfie or vlogging with one hand more easily.

Max. 0.26x Magnification at 0.13m

RF 16mm f/2.8 STM’s short 0.13m minimum focusing distance allows user to get very close to subjects. With an ultrawide angle lens, getting closer to the subject brings more exaggerated perspective distortion. By making use of this exaggerated perspective distortion, users can create adorable and funny kids or animals’ photos which are eye catching on social media. In the meantime, the 0.26x maximum magnification at 0.13m handles small subject with ease, the lens f/2.8 large aperture also brings beautiful background blur to close-up images.

Affordable and Compact

While RF 16mm f/2.8 STM is a fast ultrawide angle lens, it is affordable comparing to similar type of lenses in the market, even entry full frame users with limited budget can now experience the fun of ultrawide angle lens. The lens, featuring a compact design similar to that of RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and a metallic lens mount for durability, weights 165g only and 40.2mm in length, making it an ideal choice for photo amateurs who want ultra-wide-angle lens with minimum weight and size. To maintain compactness, a “Focus/Control Ring” is adopted to enable the use a single Ring as either “Focus Ring” for Full-time manual focusing or “Control Ring” for operation such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed or exposure compensation adjustment with a “Focus/Control Selector Switch” for easy switching. RF 16mm f/2.8 STM also features Gear-type Stepping Motor (STM), providing fast AF and Smooth Movie Servo AF during movie shooting with EOS R-series camera’s renowned Dual Pixel CMOS AF (DAF) technology.

From over 1600 submissions across Australia, an anonymous judging process chose 40 finalists, from which the four strongest photography and videography entries across two categories, Faces and Places, were selected.

Announced at 8PM (AEST) today, via a SUNSTUDIOS Emerging Photographer Awards video presentation, the winners include James Malone for ‘No Face, Only a Dark Place’ (Photo Faces), Ryan Cantwell for ‘Close Comfort, Distant Trouble’ (Photo Places), Jonathan McIntyre for ‘Just Appreciate’ (Video Faces) and Ryan Andrew-Lee for ‘Wonnarua’ (Video Places). They will each receive $6,0001 to spend across SUNSTUDIOS’ creative services, a customisable prize designed to support their next project. The winners were judged anonymously by a specialist panel including photographers Georges Antoni, Nicky Catley and Adam Ferguson for the Photo category, and cinematographers Carolyn Constantine, Dave May and Andy Taylor for the Video category.

Overwhelmed by the calibre of entries this year, SEPA video judge Carolyn Constantine, commented, “I’d like to congratulate everyone who entered SEPA this year, we had a fantastic range of entries. The judges were really impressed by the variety of different places we were taken to and the styles, which made the judging process very difficult … it took us on a real journey.”

“There is an amazing depth of Australian young talent in photography at the moment – and a sophisticated approach.” Georges Antoni

Luke Harrison, Senior Business Manager, SUNSTUDIOS says: “I am delighted to extend a huge congratulations to the winners and finalists. This year we received a record number of entries so everyone who made it to our top 40 works should feel incredibly proud. I am also very grateful to the expert judging panel, who judged without names to give entrants a fair chance, and have the wonderful ability to recognise upcoming talent.”

Mr Harrison continues, “This year the video categories joined SEPA for the first time, a reflection of our growing commitment to the video and cinema market. As we continue to grow our video production offering, including the recent launch of our Studio 7 Sound stage, it’s important to us that the video community feels equally supported by SUNSTUDIOS. We hope by opening up the awards to videographers, in addition to photographers, that we provide even more career opportunities for emerging image makers across Australia.”

Canon U.S.A. Adds Six New Printer and Multifunction Models to the imageCLASS X Series

Expanded A4 product line helps bridge the document workflow divide between the corporate office and the home office

MELVILLE, NY, October 13, 2021 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is expanding its product offering by adding six new models to the imageCLASS X series of desktop printers and multifunction devices.1 With their small footprint, rich feature set, and tight integration with office solutions, these models are designed for users in a variety of work environments - the corporate office, the home office, or a combination of both.

With organizations shifting to a structure that support remote workers, these new models will help employees stay connected and maintain access to critical business information – regardless of location – while also implementing sophisticated security and control features.2

The similar user experience and ease of operation of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX multifunction printers in the office, and the desktop imageCLASS X models at home, help make for a smooth transition between the two work environments. Both imageCLASS X and imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX models also support the Canon PRINT Business app, allowing users to perform many functions from their compatible smartphone. Plus, with the optional uniFLOW Online output management solution, organizations can benefit from additional security features while having the ability to facilitate detailed reporting and comprehensive tracking.

The new imageCLASS X models are added to a strong lineup that earned Buyers Lab’s 2021 A4 Line of the Year Award. The exciting new additions include the imageCLASS X MF1643i/iF II black-and-white multifunction printers, offering print speeds up to 45 pages per minute (PPM) and the inclusion of a starter cartridge. These models, which replace the imageRUNNER 1643i/iF and imageCLASS MF543dw models, feature a five-inch color touch panel and offer the flexibility of desktop or floor-standing options.

The new imageCLASS X MF1238 II and the imageCLASS X LBP1238 II models are black-and-white multifunction and single-function printers, respectively, offering print speeds up to 40 PPM and a five-inch color touch panel display. These models replace the previous imageCLASS X MF 1238 and LBP 1238 models

The imageCLASS X 1643 II Series, the imageCLASS X MF1238 II, and the imageCLASS X LBP 1238 II support a new standard Cloud Apps feature, allowing users to scan to or print from popular compatible cloud storage services such as DropBox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. 3

The Color imageCLASS X MF1538C is an A4 color multifunction model with a print speed of up to 40 PPM – a new speed range for a Color imageCLASS X MFP. The new model features a seven-inch color touch panel, the first of its kind for the imageCLASS Series. In addition to being larger and easier to view, the new control panel leverages similar features to the user interface of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX models, such as flick and pinch capabilities, the timeline feature, and a similar home screen. This model also supports the remote operation feature, allowing users to replicate the user interface of the device through the Remote Operation Kit on a PC, or the Canon PRINT Business App on a compatible mobile device.

The Color imageCLASS X LBP1538C is a single-function printer that produces vibrant results with speeds of up to 40 ppm. This model replaces the Color imageCLASS LBP712Cdn and includes the additional capability of Wi-FiR connectivity. With its compact design, this new model provides the flexibility to work as either a desktop or floor-standing model.

“These exciting additions strengthen the Canon lineup with solutions designed to enhance the work environment for both in-office and home office locations,” said Shinichi Yoshida, executive vice president and general manager, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “By taking steps such as streamlining the Wi-Fi setup, facilitating cloud storage support and improving the user experience, Canon continues to support its customers with technology designed for the modern hybrid work environment.”

New Canon RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye Lens

Canon RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens
Virtual Reality Through a New Lens: Canon Introduces Their First Dual Fisheye Lens for Stereoscopic 3D 180° VR Capture in 8K

MELVILLE, NY, October 6, 2021 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, has introduced its first product designed to empower the next generation of immersive storytellers. The new RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens brings stereoscopic 3D virtual reality (VR) capture* to the Canon EOS R5 camera as part of the EOS VR System, which also includes a future firmware update for the EOS R5 camera to support use of this lens with new VR shooting specific functions, as well as new upcoming Canon EOS VR software solutions for conversion and processing.

As the world’s first digital interchangeable dual fisheye lens capable of shooting stereoscopic 3D 180° VR imagery to a single image sensor** the complexities of virtual reality production and the ability to view the content in full capacity, are greatly streamlined for seasoned professionals and newcomers to the craft. In order to truly experience the captured content by this system in its truest form, a compatible VR headset is recommended for use such as the Oculus Quest 2, allowing the viewer to immerse themselves in the content — by simply moving their head to provide a vivid, incredibly wide view.

“At Canon, we innovate so creators can push artistic boundaries, and this commitment to innovation is what led us to introduce the new RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens. As Canon’s first entry into the world of virtual reality image capture, the EOS VR System represents an important milestone in our company’s rich history as a lens manufacturer and welcomes a bright future for VR content creation,” said Tatsuro “Tony” Kano, executive vice president and general manager of Canon U.S.A.’s Imaging Technologies & Communications Group. “This new RF lens produces a stunning 8K virtual reality image and sets itself apart through its simplified workflow. Our goal is to make immersive storytelling more accessible for all.”

Canon RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens

The RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye features high-quality L-series optics engineered with an interpupillary distance of 60mm for delivery of 3D imagery in VR with natural parallax closely resembling human vision when viewed through a compatible headset. With a 190 degree field of view captured from two separate optical systems they deliver outstanding results for 180° VR viewing platforms. With subwavelength coating technology offering impressive flare control in backlit conditions, VR creators can have freedom to shoot regardless the time of day, or position of the sun.

The dual fisheye design provides versatile exposure control with a maximum aperture of a bright f/2.8 to a deep depth of field of f/16 with electronically controlled apertures allowing the dual fisheye lens to operate just like other RF mount lenses. Between the dust and water-resistant sealing and fluorine coating of the lens and the robust build of the EOS R5 camera, this System delivers peace of mind even in challenging weather conditions. Canon’s free Camera Connect app and Canon's EOS Utility program both will be updated in the future to offer remote-control live view functionality for monitoring purposes while on-the-go.

The EOS VR System’s convenient workflow is a standout feature. Accomplished by recording left and right fisheye images to a single full-frame image sensor, this design helps to solve common VR challenges of stitching and synching, by outputting one single image file. Canon is currently developing two paid subscription-based software solutions as available options for completing the post-production process. Canon’s EOS VR Utility will offer the ability to convert clips from dual fisheye image to equirectangular and make quick edits, as well as select the resolution and file format before export. With the EOS VR Plug-In for Adobe® Premiere® Pro, creators will be able to automatically convert footage to equirectangular, and cut, color, and add new dimension to stories with Adobe Creative Cloud® apps, including Premiere Pro.

Compact, lightweight, and portable, the RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye is easily packed in a camera bag to help the creator tell unlimited virtual reality stories.

Additional features of Canon’s first interchangeable, stereoscopic 3D 180° VR 180 lens include:
  • Close-focusing distance of 7.87-inches/0.2m is possible - max magnification is 0.03x.
  • Aperture range of f/2.8 to f/16 with a 7-blade aperture and simultaneous electro-magnetic diaphragm for both left and right lenses.
  • Built-in Gelatin Filter Holder – allows ND gel filters to be used in bright environments if a bright aperture is desired.
  • Fluorine Coating on the front lens elements, with a dust and water resistant design.
  • Extremely compact size – allowing it to be used in different types of productions.

Pricing and Availability

The Canon RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens is scheduled to be available in late December 2021 for an estimated retail price of $1,999.00***. In addition to the lens, both of Canon's EOS VR Software solutions (EOS VR Utility and the EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro) are currently scheduled to be available in late December 2021. Both software solutions will be available as a paid subscription based model, but will offer free trial periods (details to be disclosed at a later date) as well as the ability to process still images and certain clip lengths for free.
