MELVILLE, N.Y., May 18, 2017 – Former Major League All-Star and New York Yankee, Mark Teixeira, swings back into action with Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, in support of the Canon Little League®PhotoContest powered by PIXMA printers. This partnership means Teixeira will be on hand at the Little League Baseball® World Series in South Williamsport, PA, on August 27 to meet the winners and unveil the winning photos.

“As a former MLB player, there are countless photos of me playing professionally, but as a father, I now appreciate the importance of capturing the early years – there’s nothing like that first Little League® photo of your child,” said Teixeira. “I’m very excited to partner with Canon this year because I understand the power of printed images that can be shared of life’s most exciting moments for years to come.”

Fans are encouraged to make the season last a lifetime by submitting their favorite photos to the Canon Little League® Photo Contest. By visiting www.littleleague.org/canonphotocontest and submitting photos through June 30, 2017 fans will have the chance to win one of three grand prizes (one for each theme) including a trip to join Mark in South Williamsport, PA and see their winning photos on display for up to one year in the World of Little League®Museum in the Richard “Hank” Bauer, Jr. Little League® Photography Exhibit in the World Series Gallery presented by Easton Foundations.

“Canon is proud to partner with the Little League® World Series and team up with generations of families hoping to capture the moment where their little leaguer’s hard work and character is put on display,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Canon PIXMA Printers continue to support those looking to make these memorable action-packed moments sharable for generations to come.”

The Canon Little League® Photo Contest powered by PIXMA Printers focuses on three themes:

  • Fandemonium—a photo that showcases fandom
  • Team Spirit—a photo that showcases team spirit

All images should capture the spirit of what it is like to be a baseball fan. Entries will be judged on the use of the theme (50 percent) and on the quality of the image (25 percent) and overall impression (25 percent).

“The Canon Little League® Photo Contest serves as a celebration of treasured Little League® memories each year,” said Liz DiLullo Brown, Little League’s vice president, marketing & Communications. “Those special moments, captured and cemented in time through photographs, help us to remember how treasured the Little League®program is by families around the world.”

Canon launches 'Live for the story' new brand proposition across Europe

Canon launches 'Live for the story' new brand proposition across Europe

CANON ANNOUNCES NEW FULLY INTEGRATED BRAND RE-LAUNCH ACROSS EUROPE

17 May 2017; Canon has today launched 'Live for the story', an entirely new brand proposition for the consumer and professional imaging business across Europe, in a bid to shift perception of the company amongst a younger audience.

The fully integrated, through-the-line campaign, which launches today across 19 European markets, sees Canon’s new brand proposition take centre stage across all communications. ‘Live for the story’ encourages people to find special memories in all moments of their life, no matter where they are or what they are doing.

Lee Bonniface, Canon Senior Director – CIG Marketing, explains, “‘Live for the story’ is an industry defining approach developed to completely change the way that people view Canon. The shift sees Canon cement itself as a storytelling brand, ensuring that every output from its entire ecosystem and product portfolio helps consumers to tell their story.”

The integrated re-launch is set to be rolled out across TV, DOOH, Cinema, CRM, Retail, VOD, PR, media partnerships and Social. Every touchpoint that Canon’s customers will come into contact with now heroes the ‘Live for the story’ proposition, including the website and all ecommerce. Led by London-based agencies VCCP and PHD, the campaign features real-life scenarios created to intrigue viewers to want to know more about the story behind the picture.

The first four weeks from launch will focus entirely on the brand proposition of ‘Live for the story’ with TV, Cinema and DOOH media booked to ensure maximum reach and build relevance amongst a new, younger audience. The messaging will be maximised by CRM and will be seen in Canon’s own retail, third party retail and both on and off-line.

As part of the launch Canon is looking for someone to travel the world, identifying 365 global stories. The PR and Social campaign, entitled ‘365 Days of Summer’, will be led by famous storyteller, Zoë Kravitz. Supported by CRM for both existing and new audiences, fans are being encouraged to share their stories of summer using the hashtag #LiveForTheStory to be in with a chance of winning*.

“Remaining relevant in an industry that is constantly shifting and evolving is exciting, and something we are embracing to enable us to reach a younger audience”, said Mr Bonniface. “Here at Canon we offer so much more than just photography. We print memories, we save memories and we help to make memories with apps such as Lifecake.

“Experiences are what matters and this is where our focus is. ‘Live for the story’ has been developed to inspire people to do just that. Through every element of Canon's repositioning we are encouraging people to be ready to capture stories they are creating every day.”

To ensure that a new, younger audience is engaged, a full influencer and advocacy strategy has been developed across all European markets. Always-on retargeting marketing will also be in place from 17th May in the form of display banners and social media. This will ensure that relevant marketing is targeted to the right people at the right time with the utmost efficiency.

“The ‘Live for the story’ ethos will help to define suppliers and partners Canon works with moving forwards and as such new, upcoming photographers have been assigned the challenge of developing the creative assets for the campaign”, Mr Bonniface continued. “From 17th May Canon’s full portfolio will be desirable for a younger audience, whilst remaining relevant to the brand’s core, loyal customers.”

* Applicants who think they have what it takes to inspire people to find their own stories can apply by sharing their most memorable summer story on Instagram, tagging their local Canon handle and #LiveForTheStory. Book Recommendation: Speedliter's Handbook (2nd Edition) by Syl Arena

Book Recommendation: Speedliter's Handbook (2nd Edition) by Syl Arena
Speedliter's Handbook: Learning to Craft Light With Canon Speedlites (2nd Edition). By Syl Arena 2016 (Hard copy) Peachpit Press

The first edition of the Speedliter's handbook is still one of the most comprehensive guides for understanding light, getting to know the Canon Speedlites and the application(s) of Speedlite flash in various lighting environments.

The second edition of the Speedliter's Handbook is refreshed to not only include the Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT, but the various updates and improvements will assist the developing photographer even more in understanding and mastering Speedlite flash. Syl Arena also shares his own personal growth and learning on how he's applying flash and lighting to his own photography.

This book is one of those 'must have's' if you're serious about taking your flash photography to the next level - or just want to get 'up to speed' with Canon's Speedlites, its various applications and benefits over the built-in pop-up flash.

As with the first edition I highly recommend the Speedliter's Handbook second edition for anybody who wants to get more involved with Speedlite flash photography on / or off their Canon EOS and / or compatible Canon PowerShot (G and various SX models) camera.

The Speedliter's Handbook should be an essential resource guide for assisting both the amateur and professional Canon EOS DSLR photographer with extracting maximum value from using basic Speedlite flash applications to managing multiple Speedlites in a variety of challenging lighting environments.

In this book you will find 400+ pages packed with everything that is required to learn and understand the current range of Canon Speedlites and how to use them.

New in the Second Addition (from the book):

  • Buttons-and-dials coverage of every current Canon Speedlite from the 600EX-RT down to the 90EX along with the tips on using older Canon Speedlites and models from other manufacturers
  • A new chapter on maximizing the benefits of on-camera flash
  • Expanded portfolios of portfolios made with a single Speedlite and multiple Speedlites
  • Complete updates to the chapters on light modifiers and gels
  • Greater emphasis on step-by-step workflows
  • Expanded discussions of how to use Canon's camera based LCD menu system for Speedlite control
  • Coverage of how to use the radio-enabled 600EX-RT system by itself and with earlier generations of Canon Speedlites.

Book Chapters: Speedliters Handbook (2nd Edition)

  • Quick guide to Speedliting
  • Learn to see light
  • Exposure exposed
  • Mechanics of light
  • Manage the ambient light
  • Position is relative
  • Meet the Speedlites
  • Control your Speedlite
