Canon PowerShot SX 60 HS Press Release
The new PowerShot SX60 HS digital camera is the latest addition to Canon's SX high-power zoom lineup. With 65x optical zoom (equivalent to 21-1365mm) and Optical Image Stabilization for steady images, this camera lets users zoom in and capture special moments even at long range. This new model includes a 16.1 megapixel* CMOS image sensor that, when paired with Canon's DIGIC 6 Image processor, creates Canon's high-sensitivity HS System to enhance low-light image quality. Further boosting the performance of the camera's 65x zoom lens is Canon's innovative Intelligent IS system which provides users with outstanding eight-mode shake correction technology. For filmmaking enthusiasts, the camera's 1080/60p Full HD video capabilities feature the choice of automatic or manual exposure control together with a built-in stereo microphone and a port for optional external stereo microphone to record life-like audio with ease.

Like the PowerShot G7 X, the PowerShot SX60 HS camera is equipped with built-in Wi-Fi technology, so users can share the amazing still images and videos taken with the camera online quickly and easily using compatible mobile devices. The camera's Mobile Device Connect Button makes it easy for users to connect to a compatible smartphone or tablet. Images and movies uploaded to the cloud via Canon iMAGE GATEWAY can be shared easily on social media platforms. The PowerShot SX60 HS camera also includes NFC making initial setup and pairing easier with a compatible Android device.

The PowerShot SX60 HS camera features Canon's Face Detection and Tracking AF system plus full resolution continuous shooting up to 6.4 frames per second (when not utilizing Tracking AF). The camera also features a new EOS-style grip design for comfortable and secure handling. Users can choose between a three-inch 922K dot Vari-Angle LCD screen for low-or high-angle shooting and a high-resolution 922K dot electronic viewfinder, ideal for shooting in bright outdoor conditions.

When shooting at extreme telephoto focal lengths, the Zoom Framing Assist function remembers the user's previous zoom position, zooms out to locate the subject, and zooms right back into the saved position when the button is released. An additional feature to this Zoom Framing Assist allows users to preset a desired composition such as whole body, upper body or face. Once this feature is enabled, the PowerShot SX60 HS camera will zoom its lens automatically to maintain the desired composition even if the subject moves closer or further from the camera. Another new function called Zoom Memory makes it possible to quickly return to the most recently used zoom position, even if the battery or memory card is replaced.

To help make photographs and video that are creative yet simple to capture, the PowerShot SX60 HS camera features Creative Shot mode and Canon's Smart AUTO mode that intelligently selects optimal camera settings from 58 different pre-defined scenes for still shots and 21 for video. The PowerShot SX60 HS camera also features full-manual exposure and focus control, with the photographer's choice of JPEG, RAW, or JPEG+RAW capture modes. The PowerShot SX60 HS camera is fully compatible with Canon EX-series Speedlites for professional quality lighting effects.

New Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II Digital Camera

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II digital camera
Canon PowerShot G1X Mark II - Video >>
London, UK, 12 February 2014 – Canon today introduces the PowerShot G1 X Mark II Enhanced Grip Edition¹ – a new flagship compact camera and successor to the PowerShot G1 X, boasting the best imaging performance ever seen in a Canon compact camera. Delivering DSLR-like image quality and handling within the compact form and function of the highly successful PowerShot G-series, the PowerShot G1 X Mark II is the perfect addition to any professional kitbag. Engineered using photographer feedback, it introduces new capabilities that offer outstanding performance and control, building on Canon’s reputation as an industry leader in optics and image quality.

Featuring a completely re-mastered design, with a stainless steel chassis and all aluminium metal exterior, the camera also has a large ergonomic grip for a durable and professional feel. Compact yet comfortable to handle, it makes the perfect companion for demanding and experienced photographers who need a portable, high-performance camera that they can trust and seamlessly integrate into their existing workflow.

A smarter sensor for sharper, brighter shots
The power of the PowerShot G1 X Mark II comes from a large 1.5-type Canon CMOS sensor. With the surface area of the sensor over twice as large as conventional 1.0 type sensors in competitor models, it delivers shallow depth of field comparable to an APS-C size DSLR sensor, making it ideal for professional-looking portrait and macro photography. The new sensor configuration means that it can adapt and use the full width of the lens image circle, whether capturing images in default 3:2 ratio at 12.8 Megapixel or 4:3 ratio at 13.1 Megapixel, allowing creative composition and easy integration with existing DSLR editing processes.

The sensor’s pixels are 4.5x larger than the most recent PowerShot G16, making them more sensitive to light and producing less digital noise for improved shooting in low-light, while the larger pixels also enable a wider dynamic range – capturing more detail in bright highlights and dark shadows.

Outstanding optics in a compact body
A new super-bright f/2.0-3.9 lens harnesses Canon’s heritage of optical expertise to deliver the speed, quality and versatility needed by photojournalists or enthusiasts. Though compact, the lens maintains a wide f/3.9 aperture even when fully zoomed, delivering excellent low-light performance and the ability to control depth of field. The 5x optical zoom lens with 24-120mm focal range and a 9-blade aperture excels at shooting an incredibly diverse portfolio of subjects – from pin-sharp wide-angle landscapes to close-up portraits with smooth background blur. ZoomPlus gives added flexibility by digitally doubling the zoom’s reach, while at the opposite end of the scale, the PowerShot G1 X Mark II allows macro shooting at a distance of as little as 5cm. The PowerShot G1 X Mark II also features Manual Focus Peaking, perfect for bringing the best out of macro or portrait shooting.

Accurate and customisable focus and framing
Designed to deliver expert performance within a compact body, the PowerShot G1 X Mark II includes a number of developments that give professional-level control. The first, an improved AiAF System, now includes 31 AF points compared to the PowerShot G1X’s nine. The high density AF points and wide coverage across the frame improve the camera’s ability to lock onto subjects accurately when creating images with shallow depth of field.

The PowerShot G1 X Mark II is built with fully-customisable Dual Lens Control Rings, making it easier and quicker to achieve the desired photographic result. The ergonomically placed Step and Continuous Rings deliver reassuring control of parameters in increments, including zoom, aperture and shutter speed, while the smooth Continuous Ring provides the additional ability to make fine adjustments when manually focusing. The Continuous Ring can also be used to fine tune focus distance after AF is achieved.

Framing is easy with the camera’s capacitive 7.5 cm (3.0”) LCD touchscreen, offering photographers an extra option for controlling functions. The high resolution screen displays with sRGB spectrum that is identical to the colour range captured and processed, enabling photographers to shoot confidently and review pictures with incredible accuracy.

For expert handling, the hotshoe on the PowerShot G1 X Mark II is compatible with an optional electronic viewfinder. The EVF-DC1 is perfect for those looking for traditional SLR-like ergonomics, with high resolution, quick refresh rates plus the ability to pivot up to 90 degrees.

High performance with DIGIC 6 and Intelligent IS
Built with DIGIC 6, the latest generation of Canon image processor, the PowerShot G1 X Mark II delivers superior results in a wide range of situations. Up to 2.4x times faster than DIGIC 5, the extra processing power delivers cleaner, less noisy JPEG images and MP4 movies in low-light conditions. Also improving the responsiveness of the device with a 56% reduction in overall shooting lag, it offers fast sustained continuous shooting and enables features like Background Defocus and handheld HDR.

The power of DIGIC 6 also allows the PowerShot G1 X Mark II to record Full HD 1920 x 1080 30p movies, with stereo sound, making it perfect for enthusiasts shooting both stills and videos. The camera’s optical zoom can also be used while recording, and the HS System ensures movies look detailed even in low-light.

    Creative images made for sharing
The PowerShot G1 X Mark II includes a number of new features to realise and enhance photographers’ creativity. The enhanced Star Mode now features a new Star Portrait option that allows users to capture perfectly-exposed pictures of subjects under a starry sky.

To make it easy to shoot, share and back up, the PowerShot G1 X Mark II introduces new Wi-Fi features. These include in-built NFC for easy initiation when pairing with NFC-ready smart devices by touching devices together. Users simply transfer images onto their smartphones, and then use its cellular data to upload and share pictures from almost anywhere. Wireless connectivity means the PowerShot G1 X Mark II can also be controlled remotely by installing the Canon CameraWindow app on a smart device – ideal for shooting wildlife or taking group shots.

PowerShot G1 X Mark II – key features:

    • Large 1.5-type Canon CMOS sensor
    • 12.8 Megapixel images (3:2) and multi-aspect shooting²

Canon Celebrates The 80th Anniversary Of The Company's First Camera

Canon U.S.A., the leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced that its parent company, Canon Inc., is commemorating the 80th anniversary of Canon's first camera, the Kwanon. Marking Japan's first 35mm focal-plane-shutter camera, the Kwanon was produced in prototype form in 1934, the culmination of the dreams of engineers who wanted to catch up with Europe, the leading presence in the camera industry at the time.
    The Kwanon camera prototype
    The Kwanon camera prototype
The Kwanon symbol that was engraved into the top of the camera body
The Kwanon symbol that was engraved into the top of the camera body
The engineers who created the camera decided to name it after Kwannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, hoping the deity would share her benevolence as they pursued their dream to produce the world's finest camera. The camera's lens, called Kasyapa, was named after Mahakasyapa, a disciple of Buddha. Additionally, the top portion of the camera body featured an engraving depicting the thousand-armed Kwannon.
In 1936, two years after the birth of the Kwanon and following much trial and error, Canon launched the Hansa Canon,* its first commercial 35mm focal-plane-shutter camera, thus embarking on the Company's history as a camera manufacturer.
In 1959, Canon introduced its first single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, the Canonflex. Following, in 1961, was the Canonet, an immensely popular rangefinder camera that took the market by storm, selling out an entire week's worth of inventory in just two hours. The Company, after the success of the Canonflex and Canonet, continued to lead the industry with a range of popular camera models, such as the F-1, a top-of-the-line professional 35mm SLR camera introduced in 1971, and the AE-1, introduced in 1976, which was the world's first SLR camera equipped with a built-in microcomputer.
In 1987, following continued technological innovation, Canon launched the EOS 650, the world's first AF (autofocus) SLR camera to incorporate a fully electronic mount system. In 1995, EOS marked its entry into the digital era and the lineup continues evolving today. Press Release: New Canon EOS 1200D / Rebel T5 DSLR Camera

Canon EOS 1200D / Rebel T5 DSLR Camera

Canon EOS 1200D DSLR Digital Camera

London, UK, 12 February 2014 – Canon today unveils the EOS 1200D (Rebel T5) – a new entry level DSLR that makes capturing beautiful photographs and Full HD movies easier and more enjoyable than ever before. Designed for first-time DSLR owners who want impressive results straight out of the box, the EOS 1200D is Canon’s first model to launch with an EOS Companion app¹ for mobile devices, which offers helpful tips and tutorials to help you get the most out of your new camera.

The EOS 1200D combines Canon’s world class imaging system with a range of intuitive, easy-to-use controls and automatic shooting modes, ensuring that no matter what your skill level, capturing images that always do your memories justice is simple.

With the help of the new EOS Companion app and easy to navigate quick start guide, you’ll be able to easily learn about the camera’s button layout and features, so you can take your first steps to shooting special moments more confidently. The app provides a range of expert tutorials and step-by-step exercises to take you through photography basics at a pace to suit you, with an ‘Inspire’ section suggesting combinations of popular subjects such as pets or people, with photographic instructions, such as information about speed or perspective. The app also features a troubleshooting guide to provide helpful tips on improving your photos and combating the most common type of problems, such as blurry or overexposed images, as well as tips on composition for groups and landscapes.

    Images packed with detail
The EOS 1200D ensures that your special memories can be relived in vivid, beautiful detail and remembered for years to come. Colourful, high quality stills – perfect for creating large-scale prints as gifts or for showcasing proudly around the home – are captured using an 18.0 MP APS-C CMOS sensor and Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor. As light levels fade, the images you capture will look just as vibrant, thanks to the camera’s impressive low light capabilities. A 9-point AF system featuring points spread right across the frame ensures that no matter what you are shooting, the entire scene is captured in striking, detailed quality. With rapid continuous shooting you can also shoot a series of images at up to three frames per second – ideal for capturing bursts of fast moving action.

From birthday celebrations to holiday adventures, you can trust the EOS 1200D to always capture stunning results. Using the Scene Intelligent Auto mode, which automatically selects the most appropriate combination of camera settings, it’s easy to shoot with the right settings every time.

Moving memories – Full HD movie recording
For those moments that need to relived time and time again, the EOS 1200D also shoots impressive Full HD video (1080p). A wide range of easy-to-use controls gives you the freedom to get creative with movies as your skills develop – offering control of exposure, focus and sound levels so special moments are captured just as you enjoyed them. For a professionally edited feel, Video Snapshot mode allows you to record a series of short video clips and automatically joins them together in the camera for a summary movie of your occasion.

Artistic creativity, with just one touch
Adding a unique twist to each shot can be achieved with just a touch of a button, thanks to the EOS 1200D’s range of in-camera Creative filters. A choice of five different popular artistic styles, such as Miniature effect, Fish-eye and Toy camera, can be applied either before or after a shot is taken – allowing you to instantly add a creative feel to enhance the drama and atmosphere, or simply bring a completely different perspective to your images.

    Designed for you
Compact and lightweight, the EOS 1200D can be carried with ease, ensuring you can embrace every opportunity to capture the moment. The camera’s layout of large, intuitively-placed controls is easy and instinctive to use, making it quick to get to grips with different settings when you’re shooting on the move. Designed to be flexible to suit your shooting style, the EOS 1200D features a bright optical viewfinder to help you frame your shots, and a 7.5cm (3.0’’) LCD screen for shooting in Live View mode. The sharp 460k-dot resolution LCD is the perfect way to review stills and movies straight after capture, or with groups of friends.

When you’re ready to take your photography to the next level, simply change the lens on your EOS 1200D to one of a selection of over 70 Canon EF lenses – each one giving you a different perspective that’ll help you to explore your creativity and take photos that really stand out. With the EOS Companion app you’ll find details on the EOS 1200D’s wide range of compatible lenses and accessories.
