This small yet powerful camera features the world’s fastest AF speed* at 0.03 seconds, allowing for quick focusing on subjects in the frame. When designing the new EOS Rebel SL2 camera, Canon took into consideration feedback from entry-level photographers who expressed interest in learning how to go beyond a camera’s program mode. The result was the creation of a convenient new user interface called Feature Assistant. With the EOS Rebel SL2 camera, users will be able to see on the camera’s Vari-angle Touch Screen how switching modes on the mode dial or tweaking camera settings like aperture and exposure compensation can alter the image they are about to capture, thus guiding photographers on their way to capturing more compelling images, such as ones with a shallow depth-of-field or being able to give moving subjects a frozen or flowing look.

London, UK – 22 June 2017 – Canon Europe, leader in imaging solutions, today announced that following a number of successful activities to engage young people across Europe on visual storytelling, its Young People Programme enters a new stage. This will involve offering a series of interactive workshops to young students in which they will be encouraged to take photos or videos of subjects that relate to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and express their views on the need for change.

The aim is to show the power of visual storytelling and raise awareness of the need to deliver the 17 SDGs, which were created to eliminate poverty, protect the planet and achieve prosperity for all.

Xavier Longan, European Officer-in-Charge at the United Nations SDG Action Campaign said, “Engaging young people and giving them the tools they need to tell their stories and raise their voices is critical to make sure we make the 17 Sustainable Development Goals a reality by 2030. We are confident this program will inspire creativity, raise awareness on the importance of the Goals and encourage people to take action."

Stuart Poore, Director of Sustainability and Government Affairs at Canon Europe commented, “The Young People Programme is one of several sustainability projects Canon Europe is currently running in the EMEA region that deliver social and environmental benefits through our people and products, demonstrating our commitment to our corporate philosophy of Kyosei: living and working together for the common good. We look forward to seeing the results of each local initiative.”

The first event takes place on 22nd June in Cologne, Germany, where a group of 15 students will be joined by Pulitzer prize winner and highly acclaimed photographer Daniel Etter and Instagrammer Karla Schwede to learn about visual storytelling. Both Daniel and Karla will guide the students in the task of documenting some of the 17 SDGs through photography. This workshop will be closely followed by events in the UK, Finland and Poland in 2017, and in other locations throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa in the future, in order to reach as many young people as possible.

Canon Europe has been delivering visual storytelling workshops for young people since 2015, and to date, 14 countries across Europe have run events, reaching more than 1,100 students including many who would not have had the chance to have their talents identified.

Two New Videos, “See Beyond Darkness” and “See the Light” Highlight Rare Biofluorescent Turtles, Bioluminescent Creatures Under the Sea, the Aurora Borealis and More

MELVILLE, N.Y., June 5, 2017 – Expanding viewers’ horizons through technology, Canon U.S.A., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is pushing its creative boundaries with two new “Canon See Impossible” videos that celebrate Canon’s commitment to making the seemingly impossible possible. Available for viewing now on the Canon U.S.A.website, these two new videos – “See Beyond Darkness” and “See the Light” – showcase the capabilities of Canon imaging technology which enables researchers, professional photographers, cinematographers and enthusiasts to shoot impactful clear and crisp imagery, even when masked in darkness due to

extremely low-light conditions.

“See Beyond Darkness”

In “See Beyond Darkness,” the impossible assignment for Director of Photography Andy Casagrande was to record images of a rare biofluorescent turtle found only in the remote, unspoiled reefs of the Solomon Islands. The low-light capabilities of Canon’s ME20F-SH Multipurpose Camera and EOS-1D X DSLR camera enabled researchers to capture vivid images without disturbing the natural environment.

“To have Canon step in and facilitate an expedition like “See Beyond Darkness” is incredible. It’s the perfect marriage of cinema and science,” said Casagrande. “When you pair those two together, the opportunities are endless. You can inspire the world to care about the planet.”

“This technology allows us to see things that are beyond human perception. We’re seeing creatures and coral and turtles that we never knew existed,” said Klaus Obermeyer, Director of “See Beyond Darkness.” “We always knew the underwater world is something mysterious, but when you’re taking a camera in that can see in the dark, it’s truly, truly a rare opportunity.”

“See The Light”

In “See the Light,” Canon’s technology captured the beauty of bioluminescent creatures under the sea, the grandeur of the extremely difficult-to-photograph Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), and the wonder of the earth from far above it.

Each video cinematically illustrates Canon’s dedication to developing leading-edge technology that can provide creative thinkers the tools needed to teach, show, and capture for the world some of its most unexplored locations. The technology used by Canon to create these videos takes viewers to seemingly impossible dark places that were previously beyond what the human eye could see and technology could perceive. Specifically, the remarkable advancement in low-light technology found in the Canon ME20F-SH Multi-Purpose camera plays a feature role in the two new videos. Furthermore, Canon’s EOS C300 Mark II, ME20F-SH, and EOS C500 were used to capture all of the imagery in “See The Light.”

New Canon EOS Rebel T7i / EOS 800D & EOS 77D with 45-Point AF System

Canon EOS Rebel T7i Camera

New DSLR Additions are Joined by New Compact EF-S Lens and Canon’s First-Ever Remote Utilizing Bluetooth® Technology3

MELVILLE, N.Y., February 14, 2017 – Developed and designed to meet the varying needs of entry-level and advanced amateur photographers, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced two new additions to the celebrated EOS system – the EOS Rebel T7i DSLR camera, which adds to the popular Rebel series of entry-level DSLR cameras, and the EOS 77D DLSR camera, which represents a new category of cameras for advanced amateur photographers. Canon also introduced today the new EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens and Wireless Remote Control BR-E1, as well as added functionality for the Canon Connect Station CS100.

“In what marks the 30th year since the introduction of the Canon EOS System, the announcement today of these two new DSLR cameras exhibits Canon’s commitment to providing our customers with the tools they need to grow their passion for capturing the best possible pictures of the moments in time that mean the most to them, or inspire them to one day shoot professionally,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A.

Focused on Innovation
The EOS Rebel T7i and EOS 77D both feature an optical viewfinder with a 45-point All Cross-type AF system* to help enable more precise focusing. In live view mode, both cameras utilize Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF to deliver the world’s fastest AF focusing speed of 0.03 seconds.1 This technical achievement allows users to find their subject, focus accurately, and capture the shot more quickly than ever before. Both models also have built-in Wi-Fi®2, NFC3 and Bluetooth®4technology for easy transfer of images.

In addition to the focusing enhancements, common features of the EOS Rebel T7i and EOS 77D cameras include:

  • Optical Viewfinder with a 45-point All Cross-type AF System*
  • Fast and accurate Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Phase-detection
  • 24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) Sensor
  • DIGIC 7 Image Processor, ISO 100–25600
  • Built-in Wi-Fi®2, NFC3 and Bluetooth®4 technology
  • Vari-angle Touch Screen, 3.0-inch LCD
  • Movie Electronic IS
  • HDR Movie & Time-Lapse Movie
  • High-speed Continuous Shooting at up to 6.0 frames per second (fps)

The EOS Rebel T7i is the first camera in the EOS Rebel series with a 45-point, all cross-type AF system* within the Optical Viewfinder. It is also the first in the series with Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Phase-detection and the first with a DIGIC 7 Image Processor. Creative filters for both still images and video will allow users to customize the look and feel of their content in new and imaginative ways.

When designing the new EOS Rebel T7i, Canon took into consideration feedback from entry-level photographers who expressed interest in learning to go beyond the program mode of a DSLR camera. Users will now be able to see on-screen how switching modes on the mode dial or tweaking settings can alter the image they are about to capture, guiding photographers on their way to capturing more compelling images, such as ones with a shallower depth-of-field or being able to give moving-subjects a frozen or flowing look.

The Canon EOS Rebel T7i is scheduled to be available in April 2017 for an estimated retail price $749.99** for the body only, $899.99** with the new EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens and $1,299.00** with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens respectively. For advanced amateur photographers looking to expand their knowledge and experience with DSLR cameras, Canon’s new EOS 77D is the ideal next step camera for them. The EOS 77D represents a new category of advanced amateur EOS cameras, a step above the Rebel series. Users of the EOS 77D DSLR camera will benefit from features like the 7650-pixel RGB+IR Metering Sensor, similar to the one found in the EOS 80D camera and Anti-Flicker shooting mode to help combat the on-and-off repetitive flickering from artificial lights found in high-school gyms or auditoriums. The EOS 77D also features a top LCD panel and quick control dial for photographers who desire quicker and easier access to changing and controlling settings on the camera.

The Canon EOS 77D is scheduled to be available in April 2017 for an estimated retail price $899.99** for the body only, $1,049.00** with the new EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens and $1,499.00** with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens respectively.
