New Canon imagePROGRAF GP Series Large Format Printers
Canon Launches World's First Large Format Printer with Aqueous Pigment Fluorescent Pink Ink for High Value Added Output and Graphics Applications

New imagePROGRAF GP Series has the largest Color Gamut in imagePROGRAF’s history

MELVILLE, NY, September 28, 2021 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, continues to bring new and exciting innovations to large-format printing. Newly launched is the imagePROGRAF GP Series, the world’s first* aqueous inkjet models to include Fluorescent Pink ink. Comprised of the 24-inch imagePROGRAF GP-2000, 44-inch imagePROGRAF GP-4000, 24-inch imagePROGRAF GP-200 and 36-inch imagePROGRAF GP-300, this series produces vivid neon colors for high value added output and graphics that will captivate consumer’s attention and may help to increase print business opportunities.

“Radiant Infusion”, a unique Canon technology, layers the Fluorescent Pink ink with other inks on the paper surface during printing, to create bright and soft color reproduction. This allows for the printing of high color graphics that support the expansion of a business’s printing capabilities. The Fluorescent Pink ink can also be used to print in specific areas such as text and objects to enable fluorescent color expression that makes those areas stand out. The user also has the option to print with or without the fluorescent ink completely. These GP Series inks can replicate the colors that represent one’s corporate brand that can be difficult to reproduce on a conventional inkjet printer. The Radiant Infusion technology is also integrated into PosterArtist Lite software to allow users to create high impact posters easily.

“We are proud to announce that the imagePROGRAF GP Series has obtained the world’s first “PANTONE Calibrated”1,2 license for the PANTONE PASTELS & NEONS GUIDE Coated3 containing the highly demanded fluorescent and pastel colors,” said Iain Pike, Director of Licensing and Business Development, Pantone/X-Rite. “Canon has also acquired PANTONE Calibrated licensing with two Pantone publications which expands the choice of color specification and helps ensure output results match the exact color viewed in the Solid Coated Guide by the designer.”

These devices allow the consumer to replicate high impact graphic posters, wall art and custom pop art that are ideal for the Millennial and Gen Z populations. These audiences, more than ever before, are purchasing items with vivid neon and fluorescent colors that can be seen on these personalized posters.

“We are proud to deliver on our commitment to develop pioneering solutions that answer the demands of the industry and therefore increase business potential for Canon customers,” said Shinichi Yoshida, executive vice president and general manager, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Today Canon is excited to introduce the imagePROGRAF GP Series, the world’s first aqueous inkjet models to include a fluorescent color. This series was built with the widest color gamut of any imagePROGRAF in history to easily produce vibrant, eye catching output.”

The imagePROGRAF GP-2000/4000 models have a 10-Color pigment-based plus Fluorescent Pink ink set, which includes Green, Orange, Red, Violet, Matte Black, Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Gray colors. This ink combination helps expand the range of color reproduction to achieve the largest color gamut in the history of the imagePROGRAF line-up. The GP-2000/4000 models achieve 99% coverage*4 of “PANTONE FORMULA GUIDE Solid Coated” and 97% coverage of “PANTONE PASTELS & NEONS GUIDE coated3. The GP-2000/4000 come equipped with a built-in multi-sensor which helps enable easy and economical color calibration for consistent color reproduction from print to print, as well as from printer to printer. In addition, these models are equipped with Intelligent Media Handling, which allows the operator to place the roll in the machine and the printer will automatically load the paper and detect media length, width and type. An optional Multifunction Roll System is available for these devises, which also utilizes Canon's intelligent media handling. This is a versatile media handling solution system that enables either a second roll of media to be loaded in the printer, or the unit can be configured as a bi-directional media Take-up unit. Features such as these and the Radiant Infusion technology make these devices ideal for print-for-pay, design offices, proofing and signage markets.

The imagePROGRAF GP-200/300 printers have a 5-Color pigment based plus Fluorescent Pink ink set, which includes Matte Black, Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow colors. These printers support Radiant Infusion for in-house production of large format prints with increased appeal and visibility in various industries such as retail stores, restaurants, government offices, schools and general offices. The compact design of these printers allow them to easily fit in the small confinements of a classroom or company office without taking up too much valuable work space. For added convenience, all operator related tasks can be performed from the front of the printer allowing for the machine to be flush against the wall, ideal for locations with limited space.

Bundled with PosterArtist Lite, Canon’s poster creation software, users are able to create posters in 4 easy steps with included images and templates. The software includes new templates that allow you to create eye-popping, colorful images and posters in-house with ease. Adding even more value to this included software, Canon has partnered with photo stock companies (Pixabay, Unsplash, Pexels) to offer even more of an extensive array of images that can be easily incorporated into your custom poster design. This software has been updated to support Radiant Infusion technology; “Vivid mode” helps make the entire image vibrant as well as “Spot mode” that prints fluorescent ink in specific areas to make those areas stand out.

The new GP Series printers also have available as standard, a wide variety of creative and workflow software to help increase the productivity and efficiency of large-format printing environments. These software features include Direct Print Plus, Accounting Manager, Device Management Console and much more!

Leading RIP5 vendors in designing, proofing output, print services for large format printers, such as Caldera, CGS, EFI, Eisfeld, ONYX, Colorbyte and SAi are preparing RIPs that support the GP-4000/2000 models. Users can use software RIPs for any purpose without changing their familiar output workflow.

Canon U.S.A. Inc. Helps Empower Aspiring Photojournalists through its Support of the Eddie Adams Workshop

MELVILLE, NY, September 20, 2021 – Building on its commitment to foster young talent through the power of technology, Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced its participation as a lead supporter of the esteemed Eddie Adams Workshop. The workshop is an annual program that offers a unique learning environment for young photojournalists while honoring the legacy of photographer and photojournalist Eddie Adams. This collaboration further cements Canon’s support of photojournalists while enabling future generations of storytellers to continue to learn and grow through the power of photography.

Since its inception in 1988, the Eddie Adams Workshop has helped shape the future of photojournalism by investing in students based on their demonstrated skills. The workshop, which is also known as "Barnstorm" due to its location at a rustic upstate New York farm, continues to be the only tuition-free forum of its kind, inviting 100 students specially selected from around the world based on the quality of their craft. Many alumni of the program have been awarded the industry’s most prestigious accolades including Pulitzer Prizes, World Press Photo awards, ICP Infinity Awards and many more.

“It is a true honor to support such a prestigious program like the Eddie Adams Workshop that empowers such enormous talent in the photojournalism and photography space,” said Tatsuro “Tony” Kano, executive vice president and general manager of Canon U.S.A.’s Imaging Technologies & Communications Group. “Through the collaboration with Canon, the Eddie Adams Workshop gives budding photojournalists and photographers the opportunity to try a wide range of Canon professional cameras, lenses and accessories. During the workshop, students are divided into teams and paired with a mentor photographer as well as an editor and researcher to offer assistance on their assignments. Each day consists of hands-on activities including shooting and editing content, combined with presentations led by renowned photographers, who discuss their personal experiences and careers.

In addition to supporting the Eddie Adams Workshop, Canon will provide a prize of top-of-the-line professional Canon equipment suited for today’s working photojournalist for a contest administered by the Eddie Adams Workshop.

The devotion of alumni is infinite with more than 40 former students returning to assist in the evolution of the Eddie Adams workshop in leadership, mentorship and speaker positions. They bring with them countless lessons learned in the field, sharing not only their photographs but also their process with students at the workshop. Industry changes are reflected in real time by innovators themselves.

The annual workshop honors and celebrates the legacy of Eddie Adams (June 12, 1933 – September 19, 2004), an accomplished photographer who spent years in the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean War as a combat photographer. Throughout his noble career, he worked alongside military personnel to uncover and document important news stories from around the world. To acknowledge and honor young photographers in the same space, Adams designated one spot specifically for a military photographer during the second Eddie Adams Workshop in 1989. Furthermore, to help lead the annual workshop over the past 30 years, members of every branch of the U.S. military have attended or volunteered at the workshop.

“We are so excited to bring Canon on as a lead supporter of this workshop. MELVILLE, NY, September 14, 2021 – Building on the success of the EOS R camera series, Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the next leap forward in full-frame mirrorless cameras - the professional-grade Canon EOS R3. The new camera leverages the advancements in technology that Canon has developed since the original EOS R launch in 2018 and bridges the gap between the immensely popular EOS R5 and the world-renowned Canon flagship EOS-1D X line. The EOS R3 is the first “3” series camera from Canon since the widely used EOS-3 film camera launched in 1998.

The EOS R3 camera’s features greatly emphasize superb AF performance and speed with fast-moving subjects. It was designed to meet the reliability and durability demands of professionals, even when working in some extremely challenging conditions.

“The launch of the EOS R3 sets a new benchmark for the Canon EOS R camera system. Canon listened carefully to the voices of professionals when developing a camera to meet their standards,” said Tatsuro “Tony” Kano, executive vice president and general manager of Canon U.S.A.’s Imaging Technologies & Communications Group. “The EOS R3 is a monumental evolution in digital imaging technology. I look forward to seeing the camera in action on the sidelines of sporting events and in the hands of nature and wildlife photographers across the globe.”

The core of the EOS R3 features a Canon designed and manufactured 24.1-megapixel back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor. The sensor is the first of its kind from Canon, and when combined with the DIGIC X processor, delivers a high-speed readout allowing for continuous blackout-free shooting1 at up to 30 fps in electronic (silent) shutter mode and up to 12 fps in mechanical shutter, with minimum rolling electronic shutter distortion. The combination also increases the high sensitivity, light-capturing efficiency of a native ISO range of 100-102400, expandable up to 204,800 for still images. Like the EOS R5 and R6, the camera features the improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with 1,053 AF Points and evolved EOS iTR tracking down to EV -7.5 for subjects such as eye, face, head, animals2, and select cars and motorcycles. In addition, the camera features up to 8 stops3 of in-body image stabilized (IBIS) shake correction.

Leveraging technology and performance feedback from the popular EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras, the EOS R3 uses Deep-Learning technology to further enhance eye and body detection for even better performance during portrait and action-type shooting. Featuring a new 5.76-million-dot and 120fps blackout-free1 Electronic Viewfinder, the EOS R3 camera will provide photographers with the ability to select the initial area for AF tracking by simply looking directly at the viewfinder location where they want to begin AF. With Eye input AF2 and Servo AF activated, the camera will focus on and track moving subjects at that location in the frame. When Face Detect + Tracking is active, the camera will continue to follow moving subjects around the entire active AF area.

The EOS R3 camera doesn’t just capture spectacular still images, it also packs impressive video specs as well. The camera is capable of shooting 6K 60p RAW and 4K 120p 10-bit uncropped video with Canon Log 3 support, in addition to the possibility for oversampled 4K and RAW movie internal recording. Canon Log 3, which is frequently used in cinema production, helps to reduce the possibility of highlight blowouts. What’s more, the features such as industry standard BT.709, BT.2020 color gamuts, and cinema gamut help to maintain color and tonal consistency. Coordinated 5-axis IBIS helps to correct operator motion or shaking providing dependent video capturing even when using a lens without built-in Optical IS.

Additional features of the EOS R3 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera include:
  • Canon’s next-generation Multi-Function Shoe that is compatible with a variety of accessories including the Speedlite EL-1, and new accessories such as the ST-E10 Speedlite Transmitter, External Mic and Smartphone Link Adapter
  • One-piece magnesium alloy design, integrating the body with a vertical grip section
  • Weather and dust resistance equivalent to EOS-1D camera models.
  • Mobile File Transmitter application for iOS® and Android® devices allows photographers to transfer their images quickly and easily without the need for wired LAN equipment
  • Built-in Wired LAN, 5GHz Wi-Fi®, USB and Bluetooth® technology
  • Dual-card slots, supporting one CF express and one UHS-II SD

The Canon EOS R3 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera is scheduled to be available in November 2021 for a suggested retail price of $5999.00*. For more information, please visit usa.canon.com.
