Mr. Manabu Yamazaki, President & CEO, Canon India along with the esteemed guests Mr. Takashi Ariyoshi, Minister & Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan, Mr. Koji Hara, First Secretary, Economic Section, Embassy of Japan, Mr. Eiji Teshima, General Manager, AOTS New Delhi Office along with AOTS team and Canon India team at the inauguration of the apprenticeship program, certified by Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing at Canon Technical Excellence Centre (CTEC) in Noida.

Noida, 18 June 2024: In a significant step towards advancing skill development and empowering the youth, Canon India today announced the enhancement of its Apprenticeship Training Program in collaboration with the Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM). Originally launched in 2015 as part of the Skill India initiative, Canon India’s Apprenticeship Program annually onboards 30-35 apprentices across various locations in India. Now, through this new collaboration, Canon aims to further strengthen and standardize the program, centered at the Canon Technical Excellence Centre (CTEC) in Noida.

The Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing represents a collaborative effort between Japan and India, established under a 2016 MOU between Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Canon’s newly enhanced Apprenticeship Training Program with JIM offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip engineering graduates and diploma holders with essential skills. The new program brings with it a more structured framework, facilitating standardized training at the CTEC facility and thereby enabling increased opportunities for in-person collaboration and allows apprentices to learn the Japanese methods of service orientation more effectively.

Mr. Manabu Yamazaki, President & CEO, Canon India, stated, “Talent is a critical contributing factor to the success of an industry, and Canon is committed to empowering the youth of India with relevant and cutting-edge skills. Recognizing the transformative power of education and skill development, the Apprenticeship Training Program aims to equip young engineers with the latest technical expertise while also instilling in them the values of innovation and excellence. Through our partnership with the Japan-India Institute of Manufacturing, we are striving to nurture future experts who will drive progress in the service and manufacturing sectors. The program, designed by experts in the business, reflects our commitment to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ultimately contributing to the growth of India.”

Empowering the Next Generation of Engineers

Canon India’s Apprenticeship Training Program, targeting both engineering graduates and diploma holders, now features a comprehensive, year-long curriculum. The program unfolds in three structured phases: beginning with an induction phase that emphasizes elementary learnings such as soft skills and system skills; progressing to on-the-job training that combines product skills with service practices; and culminating in advanced training focused on product maintenance through final assessments.

Over the course of one year, trainees will gain knowledge and experience in key areas such as Kaizen, 5S, product principles, customer service techniques, and communication skills. The exhaustive curriculum includes training on customer service processes, Canon’s products, Japanese philosophies, computer/IT skills covering network basics and software applications, and technical skills for troubleshooting entry and mid-level products. This extensive training involves 4 weeks of online learning, 4 weeks of classroom instruction, and 40 weeks of on-the-job training. Upon completing the program, Canon will maintain a talent pool for potential internal hiring and provide opportunities for apprentices to join service partners across India, ensuring robust career prospects.

Ms. Shikha Rai, Senior Vice President of HR & IT, Canon India, added, “The Apprenticeship Program at Canon India is being further strengthened under the JIM initiative. For the young technical workforce joining us under the program; we ensure that they develop into confident and competent professionals with a good foundation of organizational culture, product knowledge, customer handling skills and hands-on servicing skills. The Apprenticeship Program not only makes them job-ready but also aims towards their holistic development by instilling Canon's corporate values like the San-ji Spirit of ‘Three Self’s’—self-motivation, self-management, and self-awareness and Japanese business practices like punctuality, Kaizen, Horenso, 5S, PDCA etc. This initiative underscores our commitment to nurturing talent and creating future leaders.”

Mr. Rahul Goel, Senior Director of Service & Engineering Centre, Canon India, emphasized, “In the service industry, a skilled workforce is the backbone of customer delight, thereby enabling exceptional after sales experiences for customers. Canon’s specially curated and enhanced apprenticeship training program in collaboration with JIM aims to provide young engineers with immersive, hands-on training alongside experienced Canon engineers stationed across India. This direct engagement allows apprentices to refine their technical expertise, build robust customer service skills, and also gain comprehensive knowledge of the Canon product portfolio. We are confident that graduates from this program will be exceptionally well-prepared to excel in their careers.”

Selection Criteria for the Program

The program will involve graduates and diploma holders from the past three years, including the current year. Eligible candidates will include students from Engineering Diploma/Degree pass outs (Electrical/Electronics).

Canon Oceania launches 2024 Grants Program in Australia

Canon Oceania launches 2024 Grants Program to improve technological access in Australia

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – 12 June 2024: Canon Oceania is today opening submissions for its 2024 Grants program, with $40,000 available to recipients across Australia and New Zealand. The Grants will support community organisations across Education, Community, and Environment categories, as well as a dedicated First Nations Grant category this year for the first time in the program’s history.

This year’s Grants Program launches alongside research conducted exclusively for Canon Oceania that shows a lack of access to technology could be holding Australians back from major career and life opportunities. The Canon Oceania survey of 1,000 Australians showed nearly half of all respondents, including 65% of Gen Z participants, say they may have chosen a different career path for themselves if they’d had greater access to technology in schools, including opportunities like media, design, creative arts, and photojournalism1.

Australians also strongly agreed that equal access to technology impacted future career prospects, with 92% of Australian women and 87% of Australian men identifying career benefits2.

Kotaro Fukushima, Managing Director for Canon Oceania, said that improving access to technology was a core goal of the 2024 Grants Program.

“The Canon Oceania Grants Program is guided by our Kyosei philosophy of living and working together for the common good. Putting these values into practice means helping more Australians have access to technology that allows them to tell their stories, connect with each other and develop valuable skills. Through this year’s Grants Program, Australian organisations and the communities they serve will have the opportunity to receive high-quality photo, video and printing technology, as well as funding support,” said Kotaro Fukushima, Managing Director for Canon Oceania.

Previous winners of the grant program have used program funding and Canon equipment supplied through the grant to close the technological equity gap for their communities. Teigan Butchers, Advocacy Program & Innovation Manager at Cerebral Palsy Alliance, which won the 2023 Canon Education Grant for its CPActive program, said the Grant had provided better access to technology that had unlocked new opportunities for young Australians.

“Being the recipient of a Canon Grant has been a big win for our community, giving us another tool to create meaningful change for people with cerebral palsy and similar disabilities. The funding and equipment we received through the 2023 Canon Grant allowed us provide opportunities for our Youth Ambassadors to access photo and video technology, and helped participants develop new skills, tell their stories and amplify the lived experience of people with disabilities. Equal access to technology is important for all Australians, but particularly important for Australian students with disabilities. We’re proud of the students and community members who have developed new skills as a result of the Canon equipment and funding provided by the Grant,” said Teigan Butchers, Advocacy Program & Innovation Manager at CPActive.

This year will be the 18th year of the annual Canon Oceania Grants Program. Since the program’s inception, Canon has provided more than 110 community organisations and schools with more than $550,000 in funding and product support. Across the 2024 categories of Community, Education, Environment, and First Nations, the program will provide each Grant recipient with $5,000 worth of cash and Canon product ($2,500 cash and $2,500 in Canon product). Products will range from cameras to lenses, printers and other accessories.

The 2024 Grants categories

The 2024 Grants will be awarded under the following categories:

1 x Community Grant – AU$5,000 ($2,500 cash and $2,500 in Canon product)
Open to organisations with their community at the heart of what they do, ranging from not-for-profits, to grassroots groups.

1 x Education Grant – AU$5,000 ($2,500 cash and $2,500 in Canon product)

1 x Environment Grant – AU$5,000 ($2,500 cash and $2,500 in Canon product)
Open to not-for-profits and organisations dedicated to raising awareness of the protection of the environment or promoting sustainable practices.

1 x First Nations Grant – AU$5,000 ($2,500 cash and $2,500 in Canon product)
Launching for the first time in 2024, this grant is open to First Nations community groups and organisations.

Submissions are open now via https://www.canon.com.au/about-canon/community/grants. The wider community will vote on finalists in August, and winners will be announced in September.

Canon PTZ Camera Systems New Firmware / Applications

Canon offers new firmware and applications for 4K remote

Canon PTZ Camera Systems New Firmware / Applications

London, UK, 10 June 2024 – Canon Europe announces today that it will offer firmware for 4K remote cameras1 and remote camera controllers2 intended to improve the functionality and performance of functions, such as auto-tracking, free of charge from mid-July 2024. Upgraded versions of various applications3 including ‘Auto Tracking Application RA-AT001’ (released in April 2023) will also be made available.

Canon has been enhancing its product line-up of remote camera systems by providing application software that adds necessary functions according to their usage to camera systems, including 4K remote cameras and specialised controllers. With upgrades to firmware and applications across the system to improve their respective functionality and performance, Canon aims to assist workflow improvements on video production projects and aid visual communication in situations such as web conferences and lecture broadcasts.

The tracking function will be improved so that the updated ‘Auto Tracking Application RA-AT001’ will now be able to continue to track the subject even when they intersect with another person (such as someone cutting in front or crossing paths) without transferring to the other person. Its performance will also be improved to achieve more natural and flowing movement as it tracks the beginning and end of a subject’s movements. Additionally, advanced settings for auto-tracking can now be adjusted via the controller so that cameras can be operated without the use of a PC. Canon will also begin providing the basic functions4 of ‘Auto Tracking Application RA-AT001’ free of charge in order to allow a broader range of users to enjoy the improved convenience.

The update will improve the video output framerate during USB connection. Remote cameras CR-N300 and CR-N100 comply with USB Video Class, the standard for USB transmission, and by simply connecting them to a PC via cable they can be used for web conferences. The output framerate will be improved from FHD12.5fps, which the camera was originally equipped to handle, to a maximum of FHD30fps. In addition to Motion JPEG format, the output format will now be offered in YUV format as well, thereby facilitating image processing after shooting. Being compatible with the two formats, the remote cameras – with updated firmware – can be used for various kinds of web conferences.

In addition, the functionality of the dedicated controller will be enhanced so that it will now be possible for the touch panel on the remote camera controller RC-IP1000 to display thumbnail images of presets and trace functions registered on the camera. Users can access the function while displaying the thumbnail image, thereby reducing operational mistakes, and enabling intuitive control operation. Furthermore, images shown on the touch panel, which can display up to nine cameras at one time, can be output to an external monitor via an SDI and HDMI. This controller firmware update will improve on-site operations by enabling users to control the cameras while checking the multiple views simultaneously displayed on a large screen.
  1. Compatible with CR-N700 (released in December 2022), CR-N500 (May 2021), CR-N300 (June 2021), CR-N100 (November 2023), and CR-X300 (February 2022)
  2. Compatible with RC-IP1000 (released in December 2023)
  3. Auto Loop Application RA-AL001 (released in April 2023) and Remote Camera Control Application (released free of charge in May 2021)
  4. Functions including adjustability of composition may be limited in contrast to paid applications. Please check the official Canon website for details.

Canon Developing New RF-S7.8mm F4 STM Dual Lens for EOS R7

Canon Developing New RF-S7.8mm F4 STM Dual Lens for EOS R7 Camera for Recording Spatial Video For Apple Vision Pro
Canon Developing New RF-S7.8mm F4 STM Dual Lens for EOS R7
MELVILLE, N.Y., June 10, 2024 — Canon U.S.A., Inc. today announced that its parent company, Canon Inc. is developing the RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens for its popular EOS R7 camera1, enabling users to capture life’s most precious moments in spatial video, and then relive those memories on Apple Vision Pro. The new STM DUAL lens is the latest addition to Canon’s EOS VR System lineup, and will be available later this fall2. Canon is the first3 camera manufacturer to introduce a dedicated, interchangeable lens that enables pro users to capture stunning spatial video to experience on Apple Vision Pro.

With the RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens, videographers can record gorgeous spatial video even in the most challenging lighting conditions. After capturing video with the interchangeable lens, the EOS VR Utility app transforms the video captured from the camera to spatial video, which viewers can enjoy on Apple Vision Pro.

The RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens features a field angle that is similar to a person’s field of view, which enables videographers to naturally capture memorable moments. The lens is also equipped with a high-speed autofocus mechanism, so users of all levels can record amazing spatial video.

Canon launched the EOS VR System for capturing immersive and VR video in 2021, and since then has met the needs for video production in diverse fields including entertainment, tourism, and education. The EOS VR System features dual lenses and utilizes the left and right lenses to produce beautiful content with incredible depth and dimension. To streamline the video production workflow, the light entering from the respective lenses is recorded on a single CMOS sensor, which eliminates the need for camera position adjustments or synchronization prior to shooting, or the need for piecing together footage after filming.

The RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens is the latest example of how Canon is continuing to meet the creative needs of pro users who strive to produce stunning immersive video as they explore new ways of storytelling.

Fixed Focal Length RF Hybrid Lense - Canon RF 35mm F1.4L VCM

Canon Announces First Lens in Series of Fixed Focal Length RF Hybrid Lenses - RF35mm F1.4L VCM

New Portable Speedlite with New Multi-Function Shoe Design Also Available

Canon RF 35mm F1.4L VCM Lens

MELVILLE, N.Y., - June 5, 2024 — Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the RF 35mm F1.4 L VCM1 lens and Speedlite EL-10 flash. The new RF 35mm lens is the first in a series of fixed focal length RF lenses with hybrid video and still design, and the Speedlite EL-10 integrates with Canon’s new multi-function shoe design, for users of recent Canon EOS cameras.

Answering the needs of many professional high-level photographers, the new RF 35m F1.4 L VCM lens can be looked upon as a standard lens for video and still users — for example, those who use the EOS R5 and EOS C70 cameras. This lens is the beginning of a new hybrid lens series and with its fixed focal length, fills a gap as there is not a fixed focal length lens wider than 50mm in the L-series — until now. Ideal for low-light, the RF 35mm F1.4 L VCM lens features a manual iris (aperture) ring which helps provide better control when shooting movies. The lens allows very little focus “breathing” as focus is moved, and it’s highlighted by two Aspherical lens elements and two ultra-low Dispersion glass elements. Overall, this lens has the outstanding L-series optical design many professionals have grown accustomed to. In addition, the lens can be used with the newly announced Canon EOS C400 cinema camera, further reinforcing Canon’s full support of the video market.

“The new RF35mm F1.4 L VCM lens is the answer for high-level video in the mirrorless market – while also providing still-imaging storytellers the durability and optical performance that is synonymous with Canon lenses,” said Brian Mahar, senior vice president & general manager, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

The Speedlite EL-10 flash is designed for the amateur photographer who is stepping into the mirrorless world, and the veteran user who is looking to get reacquainted with flash photography. The multi-function shoe helps the still imagery storyteller by providing immediate access to the flash control menu, and either an on-camera EL-10 or the optional super-compact Speedlite Transmitter ST-E10 assists with triggering from one through up to fifteen off-camera flashes2. The Speedlite EL-10 is a radio-based wireless flash with 2nd-curtain sync capabilities, and leverages four AA batteries instead of a separate battery that requires charging — making operation more streamlined for some users. In addition, it features a Custom Flash Mode function, allowing the end-user to register and store up to three sets of flash settings, and is approximately the same size and weight as its predecessor the Speedlite 430EX-III RT — while also pushing out the same amount of power. Automatic balanced fill flash is a key benefit to using flash photography, whether during daytime or low-light with slow shutter speed, and the Speedlite EL-10 is an excellent gear bag addition to achieve that creative look in one’s photos.

“Flash photography is a simple yet versatile way to add drama to one’s photos and with Canon’s steadfast commitment to reliability, the Speedlite EL-10 provides a full-circle Canon shooting experience,” continued Brian Mahar, senior vice president & general manager, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

Price & Availability

RF35mm F1.4 L VCM lens is expected to be available in June for an estimated retail price of $1,499.00 and the Speedlite EL-10 is also expected to be available in June for an estimated retail price of $249.99*. For more information, please visit usa.canon.com.
