Canon U.S.A., Inc. Supports the New York Marine Rescue Center Cold Stunned Turtle Program Student Book Launch

Canon U.S.A., Inc. Supports the New York Marine Rescue Center Cold Stunned Turtle Program Student Book Launch

MELVILLE, NY, June 16, 2022 – In an effort to increase awareness about marine conservation and amplify messaging to students, Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, and the New York Marine Rescue Center, is excited to announce its support of the New York Marine Rescue Center and its conservation efforts surrounding cold stunned sea turtles. In connection with those efforts, the New York Marine Rescue Center released 'The Adventures of Peachy Keen,' a culmination of stories and illustrations about the 16 North Country Road Middle School Science Club students rescue and release of their Kemp’s ridley sea turtle. Their book was printed on a Canon imagePRESS C10000 Digital Press.

The New York Marine Rescue Center is a rescue and rehabilitation organization that promotes marine conservation. Its mission is to preserve and protect the marine environment through conservation efforts including rescue, rehabilitation, education and research. They are the primary responders for sick or injured seals, sea turtles, dolphins, porpoises and small toothed whales, and maintain the only marine mammal and sea turtle rehabilitation center in New York State.

"I'd like to thank the NY Marine Rescue Center for supporting the publication of our Science Club students' book and for Canon USA’s support in printing the publication and both the New York Marine Rescue Center and Canon for its sponsorship of the program providing our students with such an enriching and rewarding learning experience," said Dr. Marianne Cartisano, superintendent of the Miller Place Union Free School District in Miller Place, NY.

"The partnership that we have with Canon has been instrumental to our organization for the past number of years," said Danielle Perillo, director of administration and development, New York Marine Rescue Center. "Canon is generously supporting two satellite tags for our sea turtles, which provides the data necessary for us to be able to track these sea turtles and study their movements for conservation research."

As part of the New York Marine Rescue Center pilot program, New York Marine Rescue Center staff provided lectures on cold stunned sea turtles, marine mammals that inhabit New York waters and gave a virtual behind-the-scenes tour to the students. The students learned firsthand what to do if they find a stranded sea turtle and the importance of removing debris from our beaches to ensure the safety of the marine life.

"Environmental conservation is one of the central tenets of Canon’s corporate philosophy of building a strong unified future. We are proud of these exceptional students for their efforts to raise awareness of the need to protect marine life through this incredible book," said Christine Sedlacek, senior director and general manager, Corporate Communications Divisions, Canon U.S.A. "Though Canon is a global brand, Long Island is our home. We are honored to support the NY Marine Rescue Center and its educational program involving the Miller Place School District as it builds the next generation of innovators and environmental champions."

Canon U.S.A. is excited to continue this program in 2022 with the Half Hollow Hills School in Dix Hills, NY.

The Canon EOS R3 adds a new stage in focus point selection development, Eye Control AF, a method of choosing a subject or object as the focus point merely by looking at it through the viewfinder. Previously, focus points could be chosen in Canon cameras via the touch panel screen or multi-controller to move focus throughout the entire frame. TIPA members who tested Eye Control AF were intrigued and impressed by how rapidly focus point was attained and displayed in the camera’s OLED EVF (electronic viewfinder). They noted how the AF system could then continue to keep focus on the subject via the R3’s AF tracking technology – including humans, animals, and vehicles – due to its deep learning, AI autofocus system and the camera’s very fast and responsive back-illuminated stacked sensor and DIGIC X processor.

Further to its Best Camera Innovation TIPA award, the Japan Camera Journal Press Club, which contributes a vote towards TIPA’s selection of award winners, honoured Canon’s EOS R3 with the CJPC Editors’ Choice Technology Award for its Eye Control AF.

BEST PROFESSIONAL 8K HYBRID CAMERA: Canon EOS R5 C
Whether it’s sport news, documentary, nature, or wedding still and video capture, TIPA editors saw the R5 C as a “do-everything” camera for photographers who want to carry one camera to cover all their pro video and stills creators needs. Featuring 45MP still and 8K Cinema Raw Light video, with a full host of resolution and format options, the Vari-Angle Tilting Touchscreen LCD makes for complete compositional and POV freedom, further enhanced with an incredible low-light AF sensitivity of -6EV. Connectivity and storage capacity are designed for easy after-shot download and editing, with audio and video I/O, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity and dual card slots for both CF Express and SD cards. Unlimited shooting times can be achieved due to the active cooling system on the back of the camera.

BEST FULL FRAME WIDE ANGLE ZOOM LENS: Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens
Wide angle zooms offer unique and flexible compositional capabilities that have strong appeal to landscape, nature and architectural photographers and videographers. TIPA members felt that Canon’s RF 14-35mm earns its L-series designation, known for its tack sharp, accurate color rendition images. Weather resistant, with fluorine coating, the lens incorporates an optical image stabilizer that compensates for up to 5.5 stops and an incredible 7 stops when used with a Canon R-series camera with In-Body Image Stabilisation (IBIS). The Nano USM (ultra-sonic motor) results in fast and quiet focusing action, thus ideal for videography as well, plus there’s full-time manual focus control when using one-shot AF mode. A very handy and configurable on-lens control ring can be used for aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation settings.

BEST MACRO LENS: Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L MACRO IS USM Lens
While this lens bears the “Macro” designation, and offers up to 1.4x life-size magnification, the TIPA members commented that it could serve double-duty as an excellent portrait lens as well. On the portrait side, and equally applicable for macro work, a spherical aberration control ring allows for the creation of images with a soft-focus look. On the macro side, the close focus design allows for working with subjects as close as 10.2 inches (260mm) away, which, when combined with its 9-bladed diaphragm, can yield dramatic bokeh effects. Tripod-free macro work potential is greatly enhanced by the 5-stop shake optical image stabilisation in the lens, which becomes an 8-stop advantage when used with a Canon EOS R camera featuring In-Body Image Stabilisation (IBIS). The Dual Nano USM yields smooth, fast, and quiet AF, plus the lens is dust and moisture resistant for protection when working in the field.

Canon PIXMA MegaTank G650 Printer
Canon PIXMA MegaTank G650 Printer

BEST PHOTO PRINTER: Canon PIXMA MegaTank G650 (known as PIXMA G660 MegaTank in Australia)
Printing and archiving photographs have become a major activity during the past few years, and Canon’s G650 makes it easy and economical to make prints for albums and sharing. TIPA members were impressed with its economical aspects in terms of ink/output ratios and its built-in Wi-Fi that links with smartphone and home systems via Canon’s free software and Easy Photo Print Editor app, which include numerous editing options. The MegaTank concept saves on ink, with an approximate 3800 4×6” prints per ink set using Canon’s ChromaLife 100 6-color dye inks, the 100 branding referring to a claimed 100-year life in album storage. Print sizes range from 4×6” to 8.5×11”, with a special Canon 5×5” square paper also available. Easy loaders in the rear tray allow for 20 sheets of 4×6” or 10 5×7” sheets in a batch.

Lose the crowds this summer with Canon’s PowerShot ZOOM and LOST iN’s unique travel guides

London, United Kingdom, 6ᵗʰ June 2022 – With travel restrictions easing, tourism across Europe is expected to increase by 80% compared to last year¹. Yet with Covid still on people’s minds, some explorers are being cautious to visit popular tourist hubs this summer with the possibility of encountering huge crowds and the chaos of long queues. To help travellers discover hidden gems and beat the masses, Canon has partnered with travel company LOST iN to produce a series of exclusive travel guides spotlighting 30 lesser-known attractions across 10 popular European cities. The guides have been curated with new perspectives in mind, shot on Canon’s PowerShot ZOOM - a pocket-sized super zoom monocular camera that helps holidaymakers explore Europe’s most stunning locations from a distance.

Step away from the crowds with PowerShot ZOOM

Famous landmarks are often filled with throngs of tourists clamouring for the best view, leaving people fighting through crowds for just a glimpse, let alone a perfect shot. Canon’s compact PowerShot ZOOM is set to make this struggle a thing of the past with a 3-step zoom capable of 100mm, 400mm and a digitally extended 800mm focal range that lets you see all the architectural detail of Europe’s hidden gems. With stills and video recording capability, the compact and lightweight design makes it ideal for intrepid explorers who want the convenience of a zoom camera that can fit in their pocket. Featuring a 12-megapixel sensor and an optical 4-axis Image Stabilizer, shooting by hand has never been simpler. Full Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity enables users to view and share their snaps via their smartphone.

Get lost with Canon this summer

History, architecture, food hot spots and parks are all covered – allowing visitors to discover fresh ways to explore these cities from new angles, whether it’s visiting the Shad Thames district in London, or the Parc del Laberint d’Horta in Barcelona.

A historical heartland, the city of London is home to some of the United Kingdom’s most iconic landmarks. LOST iN and Canon’s London travel guide takes you to the city’s cultural and creative South Bank district for the functionalist Queen Elizabeth Hall, identified by its striking yellow staircase, before heading on to the East End for a peak into London’s larder - the Shad Thames district. The narrow-cobbled streets and high Victorian factories are a spectacular visual. A trip to London wouldn’t be complete, however, without a visit to one of its lush green parks, and what better way to view Greenwich Park than from the Royal Observatory View?

Joseph Djenandji, LOST iN Founder says: “Travelling is an immensely personal experience, and our aim at LOST iN is to bring that element of playful curiosity and individual perspective to an industry which can sometimes drown out the hidden voices and gems of a city. We’re thrilled to partner with Canon on this project, as it demonstrates that whether you’re in a city for the first or tenth time, you can always benefit from seeing things from a new vantage point.”

The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 - Official Canon Video

The imagePROGRAF PRO-300 - In the hands of Sanjay Jogia

The imagePROGRAF PRO-300 - In the hands of Sanjay Jogia
Canon Ambassador, Sanjay Jogia, put the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 to the test. As a wedding and portrait photographer, fine art quality printing is crucial. It makes it possible for people to enjoy photography in their homes and to archive it for the next generations. The Canon system allows Sanjay to maintain consistency in image quality in his photography and do it justice in printing.

The imagePROGRAF PRO-300 uses 10 single inks and chroma optimizer, so there's no need to change the inks to cover the greys and the blacks, the change of the settings in the software will cover this. The pure black and white photo print mode allows true monochrome printing and delivers true blacks on different media types.

The printer retains the details of shadows and represents true dynamic range effortlessly. The borderless edge to edge printing up to A3+ also opens up new possibilities for photographers. The soft proof function of the software simulates the look and feel of the paper, the paperwhite and how the ink will set on the paper.
