The announcement for the 'likely successor' of the current Canon PowerShot G16 the Canon PowerShot G7 X was released by Canon USA on 15 September 2014. The camera did not follow the expected / rumored G-Series naming convention to Canon PowerShot G17 and was launched as Canon PowerShot G7 X. It is unclear at this stage if Canon will still introduce [the] Canon PowerShot G17.

NEW: We may yet see the release of the highly anticipated / rumored Canon PowerShot G17 at the 
CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show 12-15 February 2015 (Yokohama Japan).
