Ultra High Speed, High Resolution and High Image Quality

EOS R6 Mark II is equipped with Canon’s newly developed high-speed 24.2MP Canon full-frame CMOS Sensor combined with high-speed DIGIC X digital image processor, making it capable of providing up to approximately 40FPS[4] high-speed continuous shooting with electronic shutter[5] (or up to 12FPS[6] with mechanical shutter) with Auto Focus/ Auto Exposure Tracking, the camera can capture the split-second details between a subject’s movements. The EOS R6 Mark II offers a maximum 1/16000 second for electronic shutter, effectively freezing images of fast-moving objects while in motion, and support shooting Long Exposure (Bulb). The newly added RAW burst mode[7] (supports Auto Focus/ Auto Exposure Tracking) uses the electronic shutter to record a sequence of RAW images. It can record RAW images at up to 30 fps with the full 24.2-megapixel sensor resolution on the EOS R6 Mark II. When “Pre-shooting” function is enabled, it can also capture images 0.5 seconds before the shutter button is even pressed. This is convenient for wildlife photography that targets sudden movements of subjects — such as the moment when a bird takes flight, for example.

Benefited from the DIGIC X digital image processor, EOS R6 Mark II also realizes a wide standard ISO range of 100-102400, expandable to ISO 204800, to help deliver low-noise, high-quality images even in low-light situations.

EOS R6 Mark II incorporates In-Body Image Stabilization and provides up to 8-stop shake compensation[8]. The In-Body Image Stabilizer provides 5-axis stabilization for photo and movie shooting and coordinates with RF lenses with Optical Image Stabilizer to enable more effective stabilization.

EOS R6 Mark II features High Frequency Anti-Flicker Shooting (50.0Hz to 8192.0Hz), inherited from EOS R3, to accommodate shooting with LED lighting[9].

EOS R6 Mark II, like many EOS products, supports HDR PQ photo and video shooting. The HEIF images shot by the EOS R6 Mark II can be converted to JPEG in batches in the camera, and it is also compatible with Digital Photo Professional (Windows version only), making adjustments after shooting easier. The latest [Moving Subject] HDR mode has been added to it. Subject such as People, animals, and vehicles, etc., will have different positions due to movement between the three HDR shots. Now, a single shot can express a wide range of gradients. As monitors and TVs that support HDR 10 become more and more popular, EOS R6 Mark II is the best choice to try to explore the world of HDR and enjoy shooting images in different ways.

The digital tele-converter of the EOS R6 Mark II can take digitally processed 2.0x or 4.0x photos, allowing users to obtain telephoto effects without changing the lens[10]. By customizing the digital teleconverter function to the M.Fn button or the depth-of-field preview button, etc., it is also possible to switch to the digital teleconverter instantly while using the electronic viewfinder.

EOS R6 Mark II also incorporates new imaging functions to expand creative expression. The first one is the Panorama Shot (SCN mode), which captures breath-taking high resolution panorama shot images in-camera. Continuous shooting is performed while panning and a panoramic image is automatically generated. The in-body IS corrects panning blur, so the resulting image is clear and natural. The second new feature added is in-camera “Depth Composition” function which automatically merges focus bracketed images taken with focus bracketing into an image that is clearly in focus from front to back, allowing users to check the composition results on site.

Moreover, Canon has developed a new “Cloud RAW Development”[11] service, which uses image processing algorithm developed through “deep learning" technology to process RAW images into JPEG/HEIF images with enhanced image quality.

More advanced subject recognition and tracking auto focus

With Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, EOS R6 Mark II offers extensive autofocus coverage at up to 100% [12]of the entire image area and 1053 AF zones[13], making precise focusing and tracking of subjects possible even when they move to the edge of the frame and allows for greater compositional freedom. Featuring a minimum AF brightness down to EV -6.5[14], EOS R6 Mark II is able to perform stable Servo AF even under low-light conditions.

EOS R6 Mark II features EOS iTR[15] AF X inherited from EOS R3, its AF algorithm developed using Deep Learning technology provides high performance Subject Recognition and AF tracking of people, animals[16] and vehicles[17] In addition to enhanced eye detection. Subjects like horses, trains, and airplanes are newly detectable. Vehicle Detection is enhanced to cover train (high speed trains, conventional trains and steam locomotives) and airplane (jet planes and helicopters) in addition to motorsports (automobiles and motorcycles). With Spot detection setting, the driver cab of high speed train or cockpit of airplane can be detected. Animal detection now supports detection of horses (racing horses, zebra and ponies etc) even with rider. Enhanced feature for Eye Detection AF is added options for right-eye priority or left-eye priority.

For more ease of use, Auto mode is now available for subject detection, in which the camera automatically selects the type of subject (people, animals or vehicles) without the need to switch the Subject Detection setting in the menu.Improved AF tracking performance even subject change posture or brightness change by applying deep learning technology to extract subject features during subject tracking, which applies to animals, vehicles and any other subject selected by users.

EOS R6 Mark II also adopted EOS R3’s advanced tracking system that allows simply “grabbing” the parts of a subject to be tracked using the 1-point AF or zone AF for the camera to determine the optimum tracking position and perform subject detection and tracking. “Whole Area Tracking Servo AF” Subject tracking is now possible from any one of the 8 AF Area modes, including 1-point AF or Flexible Zone AF.

During AF or continuous shooting Tracking subject can be turned on or off and “Whole Area Tracking Servo AF” can be turned on or off during AF or continuous shooting to meet the needs of shooting. Flexible Zone AF which allows customization of AF Area has also been added to bring even greater freedom in photography.

New EOS Movie features to optimize workflow for small production and content creators

EOS R6 Mark II is equipped with professional EOS Movie capability is perfect for small production crew and online content creators. It supports a variety of 4K recording formats including high-quality non-cropped 4K UHD 50p/60p (6K oversampling) IPB movies, and cropped 4K UHD 50p/60p IPB movies. It supports external recording of non-cropped 6K (6000 x 3374) 50p/60p 10-bit ProRes RAW Movie or cropped 3.7K (3744 x 2106) 50p/60p 12-bit ProRes RAW Movie via HDMI[18]. Both offer more post-production latitude than Canon Log 3 and can be used for higher-end production applications. A FHD 50p/60p Canon Log 3 4:2:2 10-bit Proxy can be recorded to Card 2 simultaneously which helps simplify the RAW movie production process. In addition, the new camera can record FHD 150p/180p high-frame movies without cropping to make 6x slow-motion movies, so as to record smooth and dramatic slow-motion movies.

Taking advantage of the increased CMOS sensor readout speed, the rolling shutter distortion of 4K 25p/30p movie has been reduced by approximately 40%[19].

EOS R6 Mark II has added a new Focus Breathing Correction[20] feature, which can correct the focus breathing phenomenon according to the optical design value of the compatible lens, and correct the change of the angle of view caused by the change of the focus distance, so that the user can suppress the focus breathing for high-quality movie recording.

EOS R6 Mark II also supports 10-bit Canon Log 3 and 10-bit HDR PQ (Rec. ITU-R BT.2100(PQ)) H.265 Movie for use in high-contrast scenes and fast-paced situations. 10-bit Canon Log 3 offers a wider dynamic range and precise highlights for high-contrast scenes and HDR movies. It is also compatible with Cinema Gamut which offers a wide colour space for perfect integration with the professional Cinema EOS System. HDR PQ movies with higher brightness, wider tonal range and wider colour gamut can deliver realistic images with only minimal colour grading is necessary. With simplified post-production workflow, it is useful for time demanding environment and can be viewed conveniently on HDR-compatible screens. Uncompressed 4K YCbCr 4:2:2 10-bit 60P HDR (Rec. ITU-R BT.2100(PQ)) HDMI output is also supported[21], ensuring seamless integration with filmmaking industry equipment and workflows.

The “Detection Only” option is newly added to Movie Servo AF, which operates AF only when subject is detected. When the camera detects a subject specified in Subjects to detect within the frame, autofocus and subject tracking are automatically performed. If the subject cannot be detected, the camera waits for the subject to appear before starting autofocus. Even when the subject leaves the frame or is covered in the frame, the user does not have to manually stop and start autofocus, and can focus more on composition and panning operations.

EOS R6 Mark II is also the first time in EOS to add new functions inherited from the Cinema EOS system to improve shooting efficiency. Adding the pre-recording function from Cinema EOS for the first time, the EOS R6 Mark II can record the screen 5 seconds or 3 seconds before the user presses the video shooting button. This function enables new shooting methods, such as recording a scene that appears suddenly or waiting for a scene change without continuous recording. This reduces the recording of unnecessary clip data, thereby saving data storage space and reducing editing workload, among other advantages. Users can also use Camera Connect to operate pre-recording, which can greatly reduce the workload of finding suitable scenes during editing.

EOS R6 Mark II is equipped with the false color function that is widely used in the Cinema EOS System. Since exposure can be intuitively adjusted, shooting efficiency is improved. If using EOS R6 Mark II as a sub-camera for the Cinema EOS camcorder, the same function can be used to adjust the exposure, making it easy to use both cameras. Zebra display function is also available. Button customization enables quick recall of both functions, allowing the user to check exposure conditions whenever needed.

Moreover, aspect markers (such as: 2.35:1, 1:1, 9:16) are added to match the aspect ratio of the screen of the movie-posting destination when shooting on the premise of uploading the data to a certain social media site to display the aspect ratio mark on the screen when shooting. This makes it easy to determine the intended composition while shooting and reduces the burden of editing after shooting. EOS R6 Mark II also features an optional Cinema EOS-style Quick Control Screen, which is convenient to use with Cinema EOS. The same quick control screen as in the EOS C100 Mark II user interface is specially added to the screen operation. Users can select it by pressing the Q key, so that they can quickly switch to the desired display style. Both Cinema EOS users and EOS R users can easily share one EOS R6 Mark II.

EOS R6 Mark II can now change the autofocus area setting and white balance setting like Cinema EOS during movie shooting, and can also perform white balance correction. Therefore, users can also choose a shooting style during single-person operation to adapt to changing situations while continuing to shoot. At the same time, in response to the needs of users for shooting, EOS R6 Mark II has also added a record emphasis function. When recording, a flashing red frame will be displayed on the screen, so that it can be seen at a glance that the video is being recorded.
In order to facilitate live streaming for users, EOS R6 Mark II is newly compatible with UVC/UAC specifications, no additional adapter is required, and it is more convenient to output high-quality FHD 30p video via USB for live streaming or online conferences[22]. When connected via UVC/UAC, " AF for close up demos " is available When the user picks up an object to make a review or display in front of the camera, the auto focus will focus on the displayed object. It is convenient for users to introduce products in live streaming.

The camera’s professional movie capability is paired with excellent focus control and seamless workflows. EOS R6 Mark II’s Movie Servo AF and Subject Tracking AF are available in all video formats. Movie Servo AF is able to track people, animal and vehicle subjects, ensuring sharp focusing on all times for high-quality movie result. Maximum continuous movie recording time has been extended from 29min 59sec to 6 hours. Continuous recording of non-cropped 4K UHD 50p/60p movie for 40mins or longer possible. Recording MP4 movie to multiple cards are now supported, ideal for instant backup. Moreover, the built-in internal Stereo Microphone is newly equipped with “Audio Noise Reduction”[23] feature that reduce focus noise and white noise to provide a better sound recording quality. The noise reduction effect can be monitored via headphone terminal output. The camera also supports digital sound recording via the Multi-Function Shoe for high-quality sound.

Uncompromised Operability and Connectivity

EOS R6 Mark II features a high precision 0.5-inch 3.69M-dot 0.76x OLED electronic viewfinder with up to 120FPS display frame rate.
